Me too, but the mocks I'm looking at this morning all have him going between 6 and 10. Sam is still on the board, but I'm thinking he won't fit in the 3-4. With that, Bucky Brooks for nfl.com has us picking Sam at 15.

drafttek.com has us getting Mingo. Quite a few see us taking Dion Jones from Oregon. But all of these mocks were done before Spags was fired.

    LaSalleAve when in doubt, mumble

I don't like the 3-4, mainly because in order for it to be really effective in run defense and attacking the qb you have to have that huge mamouth at the nose tackle position, like Gnata (spell?) or Wilfork, to just eat up blocks. Who would be the guy for the Saints? Hicks? Ellis?

Definitely not Ellis. Hicks showed some promise last year, so MAYBE him, but ultimately, I think they'll have to go the FA route.

Rob Ryan not headed to STL after all. Could it be a matter of time before he is big easy bound. I think so, he is arguably the best 3-4 coach available.

Looks like its going to be either Ryan or Todd Grantham from UGa. I trust CSP.

ESPN and NFL Network are both reporting it's Ryan. It's not who I was hoping for, but the defense isn't the reason Dallas lost last year. In fact, they played pretty well, especially against the 'Skins in the last game of the regular season, despite being decimated by injuries. IMO, SP wants to turn the defense over to a DC, so he can focus on the offense. Ryan is similar in style to Greg Williams (minus the pay for performance) except he runs a hybrid 3-4 with 4-6 tendencies. Still, anything will be an improvement from last year's 'worst defense in league history'.

This is true and he's not who I was hoping for, but if he can make our defense respectable, then why not? As previously mentioned, the defense isn't why Dallas sucked last year.

He's definitely a better choice then Grantham.
