Players and coaches seem to be meshing well together. Here are some Miles quotes on how the 1st day went.

“It was a really nice first go,” Miles said. “The team is in really good shape. There was a lot of enthusiasm and some new faces looking for playing time. There’s a lot of competition. It was not perfect, but it is not supposed to be because it’s the first day. There was some talent out there, but we are working our way through the learning phase. It was a good practice.”

“It felt like the new guys were acting like old hands,” Miles said. “They were very comfortable and seemed to handle the players well. They know what to expect from them so it went well.”

Miles said he liked what he saw out of the quarterbacks on Monday.
“I thought both Matt and Ryan did a nice job,” Miles said. “Both players worked had and had good practices. The issue is to be the best quarterback and to give this team an opportunity for victory. Whether that is Ryan Perrilloux or Matt Flynn only time will tell. It is good competition.”

RB battle is brewing:

"Going into the spring I've heard comments that coach Miles has said that I'll be the guy because that's how I ended the season," Williams said. "But we have a redshirt freshman, Richard Murphy. He's just excellent, great athleticism. And then of course Charles Scott is going to battle, and then Jacob Hester's going to get some carries. And then I expect Alley (Broussard) to come back for a full year. So it's going to be extremely competitive, but I'm up for the challenge."

Williams gained 436 yards in nine games last season with a 5.7-yard-per-carry average. He put on about that much weight in the offseason, though.

"I think he may be a little heavier -- five, seven pounds," Miles said. "But he had a nice fall season. I suspect he'll have a strong, spring season. But there are some guys there and it's good competition. I'd like to see three guys, and I'd like to see three different skills. One guy might assume the first snaps in every game, but there might be three total guys who see a lot of action and come in fresh and have packages that fit them."
