I guess losing to 6-5 Cal is much more noble than losing to K State in a championship game that USC did not have to play...
It was Carroll whining last year, right now Stoops is wimpering, and depending on how things shake out in the polls in a couple of weeks, it may be Tubster. I don't particularly care for any of them so I'm not defending or taking sides. The point is...they're all pimpin'. Shouldn't have to be. :dis:
Yet Stoops wouldn't even appear on the BCS Selection Show last December. He sent Venables to defend why they SHOULD'VE been chosen for the Sugar Bowl after having their rear ends handed to them by K-State in the Big 12 CG the night before. But now he's talking...shut up already!
Well you can't blame the guy for thinking his team should be in the National Champ.Game if they win out. It's just like Coach Saban said, the system cannot deal with three or more teams........Only fair thing would be some sort of playoff but that won't happen, next best was last years BCS system. At least last year it had S.O.S. and Quality Wins. I disagree with anyone who says OU should have not been in the game last year, only human polls care when someone has a loss and not about the quality of the opponent. The human polls as evident this year has showed no stability on how they rank teams, it is more a popularity contest and basicly just who the heck they like. :dis:
Look.... Last year here at LSU, fans were all complaining that USC was gettting all of the atention over LSU because USC is a big market team. That USC was getting promoted by the national media because appealing to the masses rather than appealing to the few is better for their marketing and ratings. Well, Stoops is basically saying the same sort of thing here. While his view is extreme, especially coming from him, it may very well be somewhat true. Like it or not, that is the way things work with college football coverage and analysis. It is all ratings based and all about appealing to the masses, or to the likely viewers of a particular market or region. I am glad someone like Stoops said what he said. He is only pointing out the obvious. His voice is 9999999999 times louder than the average fan who complains about this sort of thing every day. What I'd like to see such a coach say as well is to call out the media on its USC lovefest and say why - USC is in a large market in L.A. and it is beneficial for the media to appeal to the masses there.
Ouch! You Sooner regulars around here aren't even going to try to touch that?? Nice post dude and I agree, it should've been USC and LSU last year! :thumb:
Here are a couple of my favorite Stoops quotes from yesterday. I agree. The BCS is not making it any fun. talking about USC................ Stoops said Tuesday, “Their schedule strength and all and who they’ve beaten away from home and ranked teams, all should be scrutinized and compared with what everyone else is doing.” which is pretty much in line with what Auburn coach, Tommy Tuberville said earlier this week. btw, about the ESPN bias remarks that Stoops made........ Jerry Palm, from the CollegeBCS.com site, who lives in Chicago and has no Oklahoma affiliations at all, just said in a radio interview that it is obvious ESPN is biased and promoting Auburn right now.
Stoops is one of the top 5 coaches in CFB. It's a shame that his penchant for public whining detracts from his talents in other areas. JMO, but I don't believe any undefeated team deserves to be left out. That being said, I must honestly state that I believe OU to be a lesser team than AU because of it's crispy secondary.
