Fished sunday morning hoping to find some ground mullet then go hunt for a cobia......it did not go well. Hit a usually rock solid ground mullet spot first but only got 3.....good part was we got plenty croakers to use for lemonfish later. threw 25 croakers in the livewell and decided not to go try to find ground mullet and instead just went to try to get a cobia. Got set up and the chum going. Didnt take long to see one pop up behind the boat and after about 30 minutes of him teasing us he finally ate only to spit the hook just out of gaff reach. No big deal he was just barely legal so keep fishing. next we see 2 good one cruising but they dont show any interest and are gone just as fast as they appeared. Bout an hour later hook up to a good one in the 60-70 range but she somehow got the leader wrapped and cut it off on her spines which was only the 2nd time I have seen that happen both on big fish. Started to get stupid rough and ran out of chum so came home with 0 fish since we had also used those 3 ground mullet for bait. Was not for a lack of opportunity.....just a terrible lack of execution. Oh well.....try it again soon.
