I don't think we win out the rest of the year without Doucet on the field. LaFell is just not consistent enough.
That is so surprising to me about Lafell. What do you guys think is going on with him? Is it inexperience? Is it not being able to be the "go to" guy or what? It sounds wierd but I think he does better when ED is on the field with him. Maybe it's too much pressure for him. Sometimes it looks like he doesn't want to get hit. I really do wonder what it is. He came in with so much promise.
I'm not ready to give up on Lafell yet. He's a young guy, and he'll be great for us--just think of all the TD's RP will toss to him next year. That being said, Doucet just gives our offense an extra dimension that defenses have to respect. Early looked SO pained on the sidelines Saturday night. He wanted so badly to be in that game.
Conspiracy? Miles made it known earlier in the year how he feels about reporting injuries. He admitted he will say or do whatever it takes to not give the opponents any competitive advantage. He feels like keeping them in the dark in the best thing to do, so he has to keep the media in the dark. Personally, I'd rather Miles just close practice all together than to play these cat and mouse games with the media. Sure, the media will bitch, but who cares?
Rumors I've heard include: Doucet is not really injured - he's just in Miles doghouse (definite BS), and that it is not really a groin injury but something else (very possibly, but does it matter...). The media was held out for one day. Just one. That helps nothing if Miles was trying to keep Doucet a secret. I will feel much better about our passing game once he comes back though.
IMO if Doucet isnt 100 % I would keep him out this week. I think we could pull the win out at Kentucky rather than risking him reteaking it since the "groin" injury is usually a nagging injury.Right now it's keeping St.Louis RB Steven Jackson out for some weeks. Rather have Doucet in the later part of the season(Alabama...,SECc and BCS)
Remember that Dwayne Bowe had the exact same knock on him prior to the 06 season (alligator arms, dropped passes, didn't want to take a hit, etc.) and emerged as one of our best receivers. Lafell will be fine, he's simply a young receiver who's playing like one at the moment.
Bowe couldnt see prior to the 06 season either. He credited much of his improvement to the lasik surgery he had during the off season.
Early had his struggles as a young receiver. When / if he returns at 100%, look for LaFell to flourish.
I actually believe Miles's explanation as to why he closed practice Tuesday. He didn't want the media blowing up the Tigers' heads any bigger than they already are. As for Doucet: I have said for weeks now that until I see him on the field, in a game, catching balls and blocking DBs, I will assume he is out for the season. :tigerhead
