The Boogie Kings were in demand to back up soul singers like Otis Redding.

 

Him Warren Storm, Van Broussard and TK Hulin all about the same time put the swamp into pop music.

 

Right also Bill Wray and his Show Band Royal was the blue eyed soul sound in BR. Played at the Southdowns all the time.

 

I don't remember Southdowns ever having bands. Pretty sure Bill Wray played at other clubs.

 

He played there in the ‘60s and yes he played other places. He also played for my senior prom after party at the Country Place. May 1970

 

I ended up at the Country Place many nights after drinking til closing time in the city. It was 100 or so yards past the EBR-Iberville Parish line and stayed open all night. The house band was called Kinfolk. Jeff Johnson on lead guitar was good enough to have made it big but he ended up like everybody else and got a haircut and got a real job. Rhythm guitar was John Bell. Wasn't that good on guitar ut could sing OK. Now, years later he goes by the name Johnny Rosetti and is a great blues player. Plays regularly at the blues jam Thursdays at Phil Brady's.

I was at rhe Country Place one night and Jimmy Buffett showed up after his concert in BR and played with Kinfolk all night.

 

North Mississippi Allstars, love them fellas. Dude is literally playing a coffee can on a stick...and jams that shit too!
