will probably always be the case in our lifetime. it happens on every level and kids are labeled as such regardless. it is very annoying because yes its very obvious at time. the same way 'athleticism' is used to say black player most of the time. or at least initially seemingly was. its not an LSU thing and i dont think any true LSU fan really cares one way or the other as long as we get someone who busts their ass and prepares themselves..oh and wins every game.
White QB's are cerebral Black QB's are athletic White dlinemen have good motors. White receivers are possesion receivers. black WR's are speed merchants. White post players are good defenders and can't jump. White guards in bball are sharp shooters. Black guards are slashers. Just a few examples of what that media folks continually write, like the recent statement about JR being like Vince Young and Kyle Williams being another Pollack. Like Tirk says, we will be burdened with these statments forever as most reporters are too lazy to do their own research and make up their own catch phrases.
perhaps because I don't see color as a big issue in my own life. But people will make it into a big deal for some unbeknownst to me. Especially when facts dictate otherwise. I fear, however, that whoever wins this QB competetion, the race card might be played, overtly or subtilely by advocates of one QB to another.
all you have to worry about is the best player getting this position which will happen. coaches get paid to win and sports are the one venue where everyone comes together with blinders on to pursue a goal. so make no mistake, the better man will win the job and everything else is garbage.
Abuapu, I agree with you, I just put it a little more subtly by saying it was based off of preconceptions instead of racism. On a side note, last season - didn't Saban say that Flynn was completely equal (except arm strength) to JaMarcus during practices? If so, it seems that it's their on the field performance that seperates them.
I'd like to see how the race card would be played if JR wins the battle, who would be the racist(s)? Because he's typing, and because everytime he post BS due to his need to ride Ryan's coattails he starts crawfishing back into his hole by "qualifying" his statements by saying things such as "well, I didn't mean it like that" and "just like in the recruitng war I...." and other such comments.
