Last year about this time a real good friend had lunch with Webster and Randall and both claimed JR was the most talented QB on the team but did not commit himself to learning the play book (they actually said he spent all his time in the weight room). In addition to hearsay... it was pretty clear on the field that JR could not progress from the primary receiver to the second or third receiver. When defenses disguised a cover he was unable to pick up the deception and audible to a hot route. This has NOTHING to do with race as far as I am concerned. 2 years in the system (3 now) you should understand the concepts of the playbook and be able to operate with in the scheme. There is no question JR could not do that last year.

I am skeptical of him being able to do it this year as well... that being said last night on the news Jimbo was interviewed at Buddy Songy's golf tournament where he said JR had trouble grasping the offense last year but this year he has put in the study time and understands the playbook. That is not the first time I have heard JR had trouble with grasping (or learning) the playbook (not necessarily stupidity, but rather lack of effort) but it is the first time I have heard (from someone who should know) that JR has now committed himself to learning the play book. Also Jimbo made it sound like JR has come far enough this summer that the job is now his to lose.

As far as Flynn knowing the playbook... since his first spring practice the word from reports and fans is that JR is the better talent and MF has a better grip on the game plan. MF was chosen to send in plays as a red shirt versus JR because he understood the book better. Nothing again, to do with race. Just commitment.

What I was trying to say in my earlier post was I hope this doesn't turn into a race issue. I want it to be the best man who gives us the best chance to win, whether that be Flynn, Russell, or a midget clown waterboy.

The above information I was not aware of however, so it sheds new light on the situation to me. To the uninformed, like myself, it looked as though people were making those assumptions about the QB's on preconcieved notions rather than facts. If this is the case, then I hope JR really does put in the effort needed to succeed, because he won't last long if his attitude toward the playbook is the same.

dude if race is ever an issue its simply with the idiot fanbase not the coaching staff. coaches want to win whether its with green sheep or midget cowboys, aka mcneese.

anything else is peripheral bullchit like from my dumb coonass uncle who still says rohan wasnt a good qb. some people are just idiots.

racism is cool and all it just has no place in sports and it is the one place it least likely exists due to the $$$$ involved.
