1. Some of us have paid during our stays here.
  2. ?

    When have I insulted Miles?

    Much less on "Every thread"?

  3. Saban doesn't happen without LSU
    :eek:ldskule:
  4. i agree. there's no doubt LSU was a flagship university with no in-state competition and a rabid fan base at the time of saban's hiring.
saban and emmeret though were instrumental in bringing LSU's facilities to superior status. i definitely thinking it was a mutally beneficial relationship.
  5. I was a big Saban fan when he was at LSU because we won a NC and our teams played hard. I must confess I also had my doubts if Saban could win on a consistant basis. I attended two horrible loses, LSU at Arkansas and the Iowa/LSU bowl game, both lost in the final seconds on defensive let downs. That was pure coaching not having your team ready in those type of situations. Everything fell right for our NC which has to happen today with all the BCS formulas going on. I was disapppointed and relieved when Saban left. My 4 frustrations with him were:

    1) Losing last minute games we should have won.
    2) Too conservative on offense.
    3) Always courting new coaching offers
    4) To errogant and condesending to coaches, players and staff.

I like many LSU fans were down on Miles in the beginning. What we have all come to admire is the job he has done under a very difficult situation. Having to follow Saban so soon after a NC and dealing with all the Huricane stuff. The fact that he over came all this and posted two great years is remarkable. And remember, this was his first shot at a top college program. Saban going to Alabama has helped cement Miles as a truly committed coach. We never had that type of committment from Saban, he was always considering other job opportunities.

As far as you being a Bama fan asking this question on this board, I just don't get it. I think you like stiring the pot. I think where Alabama is screwing up is they keep hiring the wrong coach. To get a young coach like we did with Saban and Miles is what Alabama should be doing. Unfortunately for Bama they don't want to coach at Alabama. Rodriguez being a prime example. All Alabama did was lure Saban away with millions hoping he will win a NC. That often fails when tried. The only time I've seen it be successful was when the Dallas Cowboys brought in Barry Switzer.

One side note, if Saban would have left LSU earlier then he did, Urban Meyer may have been the coach at LSU. Timing is everything. And I'm not saying I prefer Meyer. I'm totally satisfied with the job Miles is doing. I don't think Saban will be able to handle the pressure he as created at Alabama. I'm looking forward to playing Bama more now that Saban will be there for 2 or 3 years.

  6. I used to like Saban's intensity, but now I am more appreciative of Miles' approach to having a player screw up. Both approaches have their merit, and sometimes being a hard-ass can pay dividends, but I think it can work against you as well.
  7. Miles is a hard ass at practice. He doesn't tear them down in public though, which I appreciate.

  8. That's how I understand it too. I appreciate you clearing up the point I was trying to make. :thumb:
  9. Read Skrayper's post here and you may learn something.
Another thing, I don't like people who look at the cameras and lie through
their teeth much the same way the media does.
This is why Journalists get such a bad rap along with politicians.
Timing also, sure looked like Saban tried to upstage the Sugarbowl then
the LSU vs Bama basketball game, whether or not true impressions are
    there.
Saban NEVER did this while at LSU so this is part of the difference when
he was here versus the Miami/Alabama fiasco that has and could happen
    in the future.
If you still want to talk Saban you do have the Bama boards also.

  10. RE, don't get all riled up here...

The "perception" that Miles wouldn't amount to anything started twice as far as Alabama fans are concerned. Once, when he indicated he was interested in the Bama job (after DuBose) and then again (after Fran) he expressed interest in the job before we contacted Price.

When the "list" came out the Coach Moore had and Miles name was on it there was a strong move by a lot of the powers that be against Miles. That's why he didn't get a single look.

I've said, based on his record at Ok. St. that unless he had a good offense coordinator and he let that part of the team be controled by the OC, he may have problems.

He's had a great staff around him. That's the key to any successful coach. You only need to look to the South East at AU, and see that when CTT assembled a good staff, there fortunes took a dramatic turn. HELL, you only need to look in T-Town and see just how many coaches we have had the last 4 years that were worth their salt (in SEC/Bama terms) to see the results of not having a good staff in place.
