I posted in response to a thread now somewhere in the bowels of this forum that I had read somewhere where the coaching staff was teaching the receivers to "slide and catch" as a means of handling some of J-Man's "hot" throws. (The dropped pass in the endzone against Auburn not being one of them). Found the article: Bowe said some of the drops can be attributed to Russell's velocity on short throws. "Yeah," Bowe said, "but we emphasized that this whole week, to catch it slide-catching it instead of hand-catching it and trying to get yards after the catch. http://2theadvocate.com/stories/101205/lsu_lnotes001.shtml I'm not a coach so I don't know if this is good technique for catching a high velocity ball. Bowes drop looked almost identical to Jackie Smiths (Cowboys) drop in the endzone against Pittsburgh in Super Bowl.
I don't think he was talking about his drop with that comment, but it does address the lack of YAC as the coaches have told them it is more important to catch the ball then getting yards after the catch. But in this game JR did not throw any real bullets that I saw, maybe becuase of his injury but Bowe was thinking about it so much he dropped down to catch em.
