someone went to a lot of trouble to rank Division IA teams. You may not agree with the methodology or the results but it makes for interesting reading.

Division IA All-time Football Rankings thru 2006
(Parameters: Win pct., Schedule, Nat. Champs, Major Bowls)
    • Notre Dame
    • Alabama
    • So. California
    • Michigan
    • Oklahoma
    • Texas
    • Ohio
    • Nebraska
    • Tennessee
    • LSU
    • Geo. Tech
    • Georgia
    • Princeton
    • Miami (Fl)
    • Penn State
    • Minnesota
    • Pittsburgh
    • Yale
    • Harvard
    • Florida
    • Auburn
    • Texas A&M
    • Illinois
    • Washington
    • Florida State
When the 2007 season is factored in the Tiger’s number 10 position should be further solidified.
Note how many of the top teams have played by their own rules historically.
A dream come true: I remember a time when I wished LSU had a football team as good as Georgia Tech when they were in the SEC—now we are better.

Standings since 2000 (same parameters, again excluding 2007 results):
    • So. California
    • Oklahoma
    • Ohio State
    • Miami
    • Texas
    • Florida
    • LSU
    • Florida State
    • Georgia
    • Michigan
    • Notre Dame
    • Oregon
    • Auburn
    • Va. Tech
    • Tennessee
    • Oregon State
    • UCLA
    • Wisconsin
    • Washington
    • Nebraska
    • Iowa
    • Maryland
    • California
    • Clemson
    • Geo. Tech
During the past 7 years we have played and defeated at least once 11 of these top 25 teams. Can any other team match that record?

I am very happy with the overall standings but the "since 2000" standings look bogus to me. There's no way we aren't top 3 if not number 1.

Remember that it doesn't include 2007. Early this decade we had some very mediocre seasons by "elite" standards. I'd expect us to easily pass Florida, Texas, and Miami after this season gets worked in.

BTW, I agree the "since 2000" list is bogus......

    The 2000 list is bogus.

    Miami?????

Sure the early part of the decade but as of the last 3 years, they have done nothing.

    Florida????
They did decent under Zook but had 3-4 losses a season

LSU should jump up to 4 or so.

    Let's see:

    SEC Champship Games
    LSU 3-1
    AU 1-1

    BCS Bowl Games
    LSU 4
    AU 1

    National Chamionship Games
    LSU 2-0
    AU N/A

    Undefeated Seasons
    LSU 0
    AU 1

    I guess I can see your logic...:insane:
