Honestly, I have heard the guy talk twice tonight, and I am very surprised at how well he is dealing with this screw fest. I feel, off camera, he is a madman and going crazy. The issue I have with him is that he is 100% sure if they win the Rose Bowl they will get the AP vote. Does he forget there is only 15 points seperating LSU and USC? Does he realize an average showing by his team versus a blowout (hopefully) by LSU could lose them the AP as well. I will give him this, he said if they win the Rose he is willing to open next season against the winner of the Sugar Bowl in the BCA game. I am all for that. It will not be the same team personnel wise, but it would be a great opening weekend game instead of K State Cal.
There's no real chance of USC winning and falling from #1. All of the precedents to which you can point involve a team falling for a close win to a clearly inferior opponent. Michigan, surely, does not qualify as such. They win, they're #1. They won't win, of course. because Michigan is a far better team, but for argument's sake they would stay atop the AP.
Pete Carroll is telling his team exactly what I would be saying in this situation. The fact is he is right. USC got screwed royally in this deal. I'd be furious if I was them. USC is my second favorite team...a distant second to the Tigers. I find myself pulling for Michigan to beat them. It should be USC vs LSU in the Sugar. Plain and simple.
Exactly. PC was all class. And he is not even BS'ing when he says he is playing for the national championship. He has valid points. He is calling it correctly. He says he is playing for the AP championship, which he is. I agree with WCT. If USC wins the Rose, they will be #1 in the AP. I don't think we overtake them. The BCS had not fixed the problem of co-champions. #1 and #2 in the human polls are not playing each other. That's bad for the game, but the good news is that this is nothing new, so we will all get over it in the end. I just hope, as a Tiger fan, that things continue to break our way, which means winning the Sugar and having UM win the Rose.
Two voters voted OU #1. With an LSU win, those voters should -- logically, at least -- vote LSU #1. That, combined with those that may have voted OU #2 who would then switch that vote to LSU, might be enough to give LSU the lead in the AP. It's going to be a fun month discussing this.
All I know is if USC plays like they did against OSU, Mich will wear themselves out running up and down the field. Did you see the offensive production from OSU when USC knew they had a NC shot on the line. Michigan wins BIG
