1. Yesterday I was in the grocery store and I saw 2 nuns wearing traditional habits including the veil. I often see other women from conservative Christian sects wearing some sort of headgear to cover their har and dress modestly. We see Indian Hindus wearing sari with their heads covered. All of this is considered normal if maybe old fashioned.
Why is the hijab so controversial? What is the difference? It’s the same statement of respect for God that is seen in the examples I noted above isn’t it?

  2. I'm out of my lane here,.. but I don't think the hajib is a statement of respect for God,.. but more, a sign of disrespect regarding the morals of women.

  3. As opposed to a nun’s cowl or evangelical’s long dress and banned hair or an orthodox jew’s veil or a Hindu’s equivalent?
They all come from a different time but I believe evolved into a sign of religious respect.
I can see your point about the burqa (?) that covers everything but the eyes and is coupled with isolation and subservience of women.
