1. Dandy Don's column this morning reports that during his radio show Miles said a team needs three good running backs to be successful in the SEC. Apparently, this was in response to a caller asking about Alley being more of a featured back this week.

I have always been a believer of a RB getting into flow after getting about 15 carries or so and was hoping that Miles would feature someone (not JV) this weekend. But his comment about needing 3 to be successful struck me as odd. What SEC team has used a three back rotation successfully?
  2. Miles may have been speaking from the perspective of depth at the position.

  3. Yes, he could have been talking about depth. Just didn't sound like it from the way DD set it up. Maybe someone here heard the show.
  4. Auburn has routinely used 3 RB's in rotation (RB by committee) for several different seasons. I took the comment to mean "depth" over the course of a full season also.

    2003 - Williams, Brown, Smith
    2004 - Williams, Brown, Smith
2005 - Lester, Irons, Smith, Stewart, Davis
2006 - Irons, Lester, Smith, Stewart, Tate

not much different than LSU using Addai, Broussard, and Vincent in the past
  5. he also could be saying that we have 3 good backs that either of them could be the #1 back, he's just waiting for one of them to step up.
  6. How can they step up if they cannot get into the flow of the game?:usaflagwa  :usaflagwa
  7. They never will if they can't hit the hole. I saw one replay earlier where Scott had a huge hole to his left, but instead of cutting back he ran right into the teeth of the defense. That's not the OL's fault.
  8. LSU has played dual running backs many times over the years, most years, I would guess. Some duos were exceptional: Robiske/Alexander, Hillard/James, Toefield/Davis.

There have also been a few years when three running backs got a lot of carries, but usually because of an injury to the starter.
  9. Tommy T said the same thing a few weeks back.
  10. On the team that I coach I have 4 RB's that are all about even so I try and get each of them carries early in the game and let the one that is playing the best that day get the most carries throughout the game. That is what I hope Miles meant by RB by commitee.
