To anyone in the band or in the know, I have a question. There's a song named "Let us break bread together" I have it on my LSU band cd that I made with a bunch of other band songs. I've always really liked it. While watching the BR news last night (I think ch 2), one of the reporters from Stark-vegas was doing a report after the game and I heard the song playing in the background by the band. I wanted to know the meaning of the song and it's significance to the band and how often it's played. Thanks!
And while we are asking band questions, I have this one. I will be in Nashville this weekend. Will it be the pep band or full band making the trip?
Not 100% sure on the history of the song, but I'm think that either Mr Wickes or Ms Moorehouse began the tradition sometime in the 80's. They wanted to add a song before the band sings the alma mater after the game. I'm not sure, but they may have borrowed that tradition from Florida (where both directors came from). Hopefully that answer holds you over till the more-knowledgable band members show up on the board.
Yes, always right before the band sings the alma mater. If you ever have the chance stay after the game to check it out. Quite an experience.
As the name indicates, it's the last thing played before the Alma Mater to indicate the end of hostilities and an offering of peace to the opposing team. At the conclusion of a game TigerBand will play it's halftime music followed by this. The trumpet solo is impressive. I was in TigerBand in '89, I believe the song had been in use for only a few years at that time.
thanks. it's an awesome piece of music, i can see how the trumpet solo can give goose bumps. my own corny tradition is to play that song after a loss. i find it cleansing.
