I realize this is from Ol Dandy Don but "LSU is in great shape at quarterback the next several years with Matt Flynn and JaMarcus only being sophomores next season and with Ryan Perrilloux arriving in August. I would be surprised if Coach Miles signs a quarterback in the next recruiting class. The Tigers are loaded at the running back position the next several years and the same can be said about wide receivers and TEs." Yes there may be concerns at QB but we really do have three Excellent options. I feel any of these three would smoke say...AU's "warm body". This may be an excellent first year for Miles. It takes time to 'gel' with a team...but with the team we have this year...he is probably being given a by-year here. I cannot wait till the friggin season starts to watch some friggin footbal.
I agree. You can never have enough quality depth at that position. I remember one year when Florida opened their fall camp w/ plenty of depth at QB and in the short time between the opening of camp and the day they were ready to tee it up, injuries and grades had them down to their 5th-stringer...a freshman walk-on by the name of Kerwin Bell.
You also must consider transfers.. If Perrilloux or Flynn take the job, i think that JR will be playing in the SWAC or for some other Alabama team in 2k6. I dont think LSU HAS to take a qb next year, but it would be smart.. HOWEVER... with the depth we have at QB, can we guarantee that the qb would would pick up would be quality, or would he just be a space filler?....
If it came down to it, we'd probably have Early Doucet play QB. No talented player is going to want to to come to LSU for QB next year. It would be beyond all reason. 4th string behind some of the best in the nation? No way.
Thats the point...depth is ALWAYS a plus...but we DO have have one of the most 'potentially' talentented backfields in College Football. This definately more than includes the running backs. And although maybe young...these guys should continue to get better for the next couple of years.:hihi:
Cparso, I agree that there won't be too many highly touted QB's that would want to come to LSU, even though it sure didn't hurt USC in getting Sanchez this year even though there are already 3 great prospects ahead of him. But we can't not bring in guys that can actually throw the ball. All teams need to have at least 4 good QB's on their roster, guys that have the arm to play college ball. We don't need Early trying to run the option.
