Anyone familiar with Knoxvegas - I'd appreciate some suggestions for some bars within walking distance of the Hilton Knoxville (downtown across from the convention center) we can use as a rally point to meet up with the rest of our group coming in at different times on Friday... Ideally, it should be a bar that stays crowded 'til closing time. Thanks in advance.
You are right in between the strip and the old city. Either place is good. The strip caters to more college age. The old city is college and older. Good idea not to go much east of the old city. Another good restaurant and bar would be either Calhouns on the River, Tennessee Grille, or Riverside Tavern, which is just below the women's basketball hall of fame (big basketball, can't miss it). Those are all pretty close to campus and the River. Good restaurants and bars abound in the downtown area, I would just ask the folks at the Hilton for suggestions. My favs: Seafood - Chesapeaks; Steak - either Ye Olde Steak house on Chapman Hwy. or Regas downtown, Butcher Shop is OK. Old College Inn on the strip or Charlie Peppers are both pretty good. I have a question on this matter. Why is it that when fans go on a road trip the most common question is "what are the good bars to go to?" I mean really, how much better can a bar in Knoxville be than your average everyday bar in Baton Rouge? I'm not a big drinker so maybe this is why I find this to be weird, but if you are going to spend your money to go on a trip why not see something you can't see here? After you can do the tailgate thing and enjoy the game. Just wondering.
Personally, alcohol sucks unless its night time and late.... I'd rather get stoned before a football game than get tanked. Alcohol dehydrates the hell out of me and gives me a headache.
Dont you have some drinking to do? As per the other person asking why people want the bars. Well, when I tailgate all day and drink, then sneak some sipping stuff into the game, if we win I wanna celebrate by going to a bar, if we lose, I gotta drink my depression away. Besides after a game, what else would one wanna do? Usually the friday before the game is the "tour" day. Sat is game time and drinking is a tradition!
