Coaches can grant a conditional release. Meaning that they player will be released if they choose a school outside of the SEC. This is what happened with us and Toney Douglas, so he ended up at FSU rather than Ole Miss which was his first choice.

When a player transfers to another D-1A school, and the coach grants him a release...he must sit out a year, and then play...but he is on scholarship both years.

If a player transfers to another D-1A school in the same conference, and the coach does not grant him the release, he can still go, sit out a year, and play the 2nd. But he is only on scholarship the 2nd year. He must pay his own way for the first year.

So he could still go to UF, even if Miles doesn't grant the release, he would just have to pay his own way the first year. And then go on scholarship after 1 year. But if his family decides they don't want to pay for a year of college...he would have to go to a school outside of the SEC.

    Hope this helps.

Could Amp qualify for a sixth year ?
If so, seems to me he deserves it, as he has had such a hard time with his injury. I hope he gets it. I also hope it's not with someone on our schedule !

    Good Luck, Amp !

I look at it this way - If Amp Hill doesn't want to be an LSU Tiger, then why should I waste my time getting upset about him leaving or feeling down in the dumps because some kid decided he didn't want to compete for playing time. Amp was going to be lucky to sniff the field this year with the proven receivers we have. I look forward to seeing LaFell and others get more reps. I just don't see the use of wasting my time wondering, worrying about some kid who's not on campus and practicing.

Aubie is right, the NCAA has it's rules and each conference has their own. The conference rule super seeds the NCAA rule as far as granting a release to an in-conference team. If LSU decides they do not want a player to transfer to an SEC school they have that right as far as the scholarship is concerned. A guy can walk on anywhere he wants to.

According to NCAA rules on medical reshirting Amp does not qualify for a sixth year right now. He would have to have another injury which causes him to lose a year of playing. Since he will have to sit out this season no matter what, he will lose this year of eligiblity and never get it back so the most he will ever play is 2 seasons now, even if he does get a medical redshirt due to another injury.

LSU will absolutely give Amp a release. The kid is going anyway and there is nothing to be gained from withholding a release . . . other than hard feelings.

Dale Brown decided to teach Lester Earl a lesson by not releasing him and Lester ended up finding a way to get some payback. Dale is forced out and LSU ends up on NCAA probation.

They don't have to give him a release really to go to an OOC school he could transfer anyway, so that is not really an issue. To an SEC school would be an issue and I don't see them giving him a release to one of them. They may.
