STARKVILLE, Miss.--At approximately 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, a tornado touched down on the Mississippi State campus and nearby areas, damaging a number of buildings and dozens of trees. No on-campus injuries were reported.

"While the severe weather will move out of the area Sunday evening, we are encouraging students to stay in their residence halls and in their off-campus housing and to observe safety precautions," said MSU President Charles Lee. "We will continue to assess damage and work to restore power to campus, with the safety of our students and employees a top priority."

Monday morning classes on the Starkville campus will be cancelled to expedite repair and cleanup. The College of Veterinary Medicine, however, will meet classes normally scheduled. All other classes will resume at 1 p.m.

"We have many trees and power lines affected, and to allow campus crews to work safely, we are asking students and non-essential personnel to remain at home Monday morning," Lee said.

Essential personnel, including facilities managers of individual MSU buildings, should report to work Monday. Building managers will be needed to assess other potential damage, Lee said. Employees unsure of their status should contact their immediate supervisor.

A number of buildings, including historic Perry Cafeteria, received significant high-wind damage. Food services will be available Monday in the Colvard Union Food Court and McCarthy Hall Court, with service restored to Perry Cafeteria by Tuesday.

Other damaged buildings include Colvard Union, George Hall, Lloyd-Ricks Annex, Magruder Hall, McCool Hall, Pace Seed Laboratory, Plant Industries Building, and Thompson Hall.

"We appreciate the support of Starkville Mayor Dan Camp, who immediately offered city resources to help, and the many MSU facilities management personnel who worked throughout the day and evening Sunday to bring campus back on line," Lee said.
  2. I wonder how this will affect our game? *cough-tennessee-cough-cough*
  3. Hopefully the cows made it out ok
  4. I don't think we should fly in for this game. I'm worried about the weather affecting the game, since its in a week and all and the hurricane is still stalled over Baton Rouge. Let's threaten to forfeit.
  5. I heard it caused $10 million dollars in improvements! :hihi:

    (Glad no one was hurt.....)
  6. Guess God isnt a fan of Cowbells either.
  7. If they have bulls roaming free on their campus, no way in hell we send our team there for a game. We know their fans still have cowbells and will use them to taunt the bulls against our players. Also, no parent in their right mind would allow their sons to go and play in that enviroment. Surely Coach Miles has received nonstop phone calls since this tornado hit the MSU campus. This is is an all around bad situation. LSU should force MSU to forfeit this game. It's the only sane thing to do. If they refuse then tough crap. We are bigger than a mere football game. I'll be damned if any of our fans go there during such a trying time. We can simply proclaim ourselves winners of the game. No need to make the trip. We all know who would win anyway. I am sure coach Croom is scared to play us though and will be glad to just forfeit. Quite frankly, he would be making the right decision. No way LSU goes and plays in the war zone that is Starkville. ~NO~ ~F~R~E~A~K~I~N ~~W~~A~~Y~~!!!!
  8. Will there be any hotels available, I would hate for our team to have leave on saturday and play a game on the same day. After all I want tthe safety of our players to come first.
  9. props for that ramah-fication :hihi:
  10. Hey, one thing is for sure, we're not afraid. Yes, you should win. Yes, you probably will win, but rest assured, we're not afraid. We will play you tough. A few turnovers and who knows what might happen. Just ask Florida about last year. So, fly in the day of the game, take a train, ride a bike or walk. Makes no difference to us. Just be there. And, if there are any mean ole bulls still walking around campus, we'll make sure that he takes one of his big ole horns and rams it up one of your players *&$. How bout that!!! I do hope that ya'll beat UT. I don't like Fulmer and want ya'll undefeated. See ya Saturday.:hihi: :hihi:
