I finally took the time to watch the Cotton Bowl. LSU's offense looked good, but some of that was
A&M's horrible defense. I saw many times they had guys out of position, and not playing assignment football. A&M on offense wasn't much better.
2 of his INT's should have never been thrown. When he was sacked with the empty backfield and he fumbled, that should have never happened. He should have checked out of the play once LSU showed blitz. That's just to name a few.
A&M was killing LSU with the halfback toss at first, but LSU adjusted, but A&M kept trying it, and getting nothing. (Note: Gray got the corner well early,
if LSU doesn't defend that better, a faster LMJ/Barner/Huff, will hit that corner quicker.) Once A&M got behind, they threw the ball quite a bit more, which played right into LSU's hands, shutting them down for most of the 2nd half.
Am I close in my evaluation? I only watched the compilation plays on YouTube. I don't have time to watch the game in real time.
That being said, Oregon was better than A&M last year. Oregon was statistically better in almost every major category. Against arguable the same quality of competition as the Big 12.
They had a better passing yards average, but threw almost twice as many INT's as Oregon, with a huge difference in T.O. margin. The rushing totals are to be expected.
It's going to be a great game, I can't wait!
