I've been posting here for a good while. Still like the Tigers. Even last night. I don't thinkTroy expected nor deserved to still be in the game in the 2nd quarter much less the fourth. However, I think the Troy coach made a huge mistake of his own. On fourth and two at the LSU seven yard line with about three minutes left in the game, he settles for three. Had he gone for the first down, one of two things happen. They have four more downs and can kill a lot of time, and still have a chip shot field goal or touchdown. If they fail to pick up the first down, LSU has a long field to travel. And LSU has already so generous. With everyone's attitude that the Troy players should be happy just to walk on LSU grass, I would have felt like there was nothing to lose------everything to gain. Still better to be coaching in Baton Rouge with a win and a few unhappy fans than to be coaching and explaining in the Gator Nation. :thumb: Yes--- I did graduate from Troy :hihi: :hihi:
why do that when LSU didn't even have ONE first down in the previous four possessions....if XC doesn't return that kick 46 yards who knows what happens
GREAT POINT....That special teams play was something I had been calling for... I said that we'd either need a special teams return, or a special teams coverage unit block, or a turnover to win that game... X-man provided that...Who knows what would have happened without that special teams play...
The idea of forcing LSU to go 95 yards is a great point. I was somewhat surprised he didn't force the issue. Can you imagine the play calling for LSU from our own 5 yard line with 2 minutes to go and an extremely shaky Randall at QB?
I think they just wanted to play it safe and not risk losing when you could put points on the board. I think before they kicked it Troy called a TO. I'm sure they talked about it, wieghing the options. The way LSU was playing I might have gone for it, but to be in Tiger stadium as a 20+ underdog and have a shot to put points on the board and still force LSU's O to drive down the field for the win would be an option I would have seriously considered as well.
Wasn't this X-Man's first good return of the entire year? It's been very disappointing the way our special teams has played. An entire facet of our game being a liability this year has hurt us just as much as our offensive/defensive woes.
Think a little harder. IF-Troy makes the first down, then they have four more plays and maybe a td instead of the fg. PLUS the clock keeps on ticking. Could have been embarrassing. :champs:
islstl quote "Wasn't this X-Man's first good return of the entire year?" No, X first return of the year went for 46 yards against ASU. I think X will break one before the year is out. Also, I think he's 2nd in the SEC in kick-off returns average.
Counting the 1 yarder he had aginst Georgia?:dis: :nope: X-man finally came through for us. Not having Green playing at his potential has really hurt us.
Yes, counting the 1 yard return. I don't think Green has the speed or quickness he had last year. He put on too much muscle over the summer & lost a little speed & quickness in the process. If he lost a forty yard dash to "X" (before his injury) with "X" slipping, you know he was too heavy.
