Turkey Gumbo

    I like it with or without okra, just not too much of it. No tomatoes. If you like turkey gumbo try some smoked turkey necks in the next one, I love 'em.

    Kyle, when I make stewed Okra and tomatoes, I add some apple cider vinegar to the okra...it cuts down the slime. Then to counteract the acidity of the vinegar, I add an equal (roughly) amount of Steen's cane syrup.

    "Try it...you'll like it.":).

    I sometimes add the leftover okra and tomatoes to gumbo...not much leftovers=not much tomato. The few tomatoe pieces dissolve and just some skin is noticeable if you look real, real close.

    Nothing wrong with tomatoes and okra in a gumbo. Steve is right, vinegar (I use about a tablespoon of vinegar for 2 lbs of okra) will take the slime out. I use the canned stewed tomatoes and I drain the juice before putting in the pot.
