My wife, the Crawfish Tech alumnae, pointed out this morning SLI/USL/ULL has once agin gone out and found a new name for the university. Sometime this summer ULL became "Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns".

As impressive as that will look on degrees, I am urging her to suggest "Louisiana's F'ing Idiots" to truly represent the asinine foolishness coming out of the short man with the red jackets office these days. Dr. Authement has gone off the deepest end.

I think they have been using Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns for a few years now. I liked USL myself, it was like LSU for people with Dyslexia.

ULL has been using it for years... they changed to UL in the early 80's but LSU and the legislature forced them to change back.. when they changed to ULL, they understood that legally they couldnt go by UL, but the teams could be called "Louisiana"... I think ULM does it too...

This isn't new...The Daily Advertiser and local TVs in Lafayette have been referring to ULL as Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns for a while now. I keep wondering how the Advertiser who is a Gannett-owned newspaper can deviate style wise from the other four Gannett-owned papers in the state - The Shreveport Times, Monroe News-Star, Alexandria Town Talk and Opelousas Daily World. The Times, News-Star and Town Talk all refer to the school as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on first reference and ULL on second and other references. But the Advertiser just uses the University of Louisiana and then Louisiana on second reference. In journalism school it was always taught to follow AP style and maintaining consistency in style were extremely important. So what that means is that in any story written by a reporter in Monroe, Shreveport or Alexandria that involves ULL and that the Advertiser uses, they go in and change all references from ULL to Louisiana.

I think they should call themselves Louisiana's LeRoux, put out an album, make a Top 40 hit out of a song called "New Orleans Ladies", and then retire.

    What, that's already been done??????

    NEVERMIND.

They can proclaim to the world that they are the Stanford of the Crawfish Country for all I care. They'll always be SLI-Hi to me. :hihi:

Seriously, I think what this is all about is the Cajuns' efforts to make it more difficult for folks to look up their embarassing football records on the internet.
