  1. No, a vote for Edwards is for the People of Louisiana. Big Oil doesn't care about Louisiana, they only care about making money and paying the least taxes they can get away with. It's not like they are going to ship their factories to China. The oil and gas is here and it belongs to the citizens of Louisiana, not to Big Oil.
  2. Red you claim to be a capitalist and do well in business and BRAG about how you use the law to REDUCE YOUR TAXES but that was a socialist ....no communist rant. Oil belongs to PROPERTY OWNERS who lease their mineral rights to oil companies who PAY THEM WELL FOR IT. As to paying the least amount in taxes gee buddy that sounds just like YOU.
    Frankly if you're implying Edwards wants to make a better deal with the many oil companies who are leasing oil rights from the state more power to him. If he wants to get the state it's fair share of the offshore mineral taxes more power to him. However if he is advocating adding taxes to in state oil facilities or adding new burdens to the oil industry at a time when it is in the worst business enviorment in years then he is is wrong for the job.

  3. When have I done that? I have never evaded a tax in my life. And everybody tries to make sure they aren't paying any taxes they don't have to. Its a phony charge you made up. As usual you always try to make it about me instead of the real issues.

    I know that very well, my land is leased. But you are wrong. It also belongs to the citizens of Louisiana who collectively own state lands and water bottom ands the oil companies pay the State, too. Nothing socialist about that.

    So you don't know what he advocates, you just know you're are against him enough to vote for another Jindal power-tripper like Vitter.
  4. Red you work so hard at evading and attacking you ignore my point. I'll write slowly so try to understand. I NEVER accused you of doing anything illegal. In fact I said you take every measure to legally reduce taxes. What I did was compare your actions with oil companies that do the same thing....pay the least in taxes legally. If you and they have the same objective....pay the least in taxes legally, how is what you do ok and what they do immoral??????Quit being so sensitive.

My post you quoted had NO COMMENT on my decision on who to vote for. What I said was that if Edwards thought putting additional burden on the oil industry during this time he was wrong. NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS.
    I guess unlike you I'm going to learn more about Edwards before deciding how to cast my vote.

    Don't be obtuse. Do I hire a lobbying firm at great expense to badger legislators to act on my behalf? No. Do I contribute to Superpacs to elect politicians favorable to me. No. My statement about oil companies was not about them paying taxes, it is about them owning our elected representatives. Could you be so foolish as to miss that?

    No you are agreeing with me, what so you think I was talking about? I want a guy negotiating for Louisiana that has no already been bought by Big Oil. A child can understand this.

    Your ignorance of what communism is, is not my problem. What you are describing is called authoritarianism and nobody has called for that. The every idea is preposterous.

    1) Is what oil companies do any more illegal than what you do to manage taxes? They AND you do what is within your means to your mutual advantage. I DON'T CONDEMN you at all. I do the same as should any taxpayer. Why is what the do immoral?
    2) I'm sure you've NEVER used friendship to help you in business or politics or in a legal situation. Come on man the oil companies are doing what everyone does to help themselves. To condemn them for doing what is natural is BS.

    You invented this phony issue. I never claimed they were doing anything illegal with taxes, I said that Big Oil owns the legislature, which any observer with a brain knows is true.

    I never bribed anybody or hired lobbyists to promote my special interests. Big Oil does.

    I condemn all special interests that use lobbyists and campaign financing to buy influence from legislators who are supposed to be working for their constituents.

  9. I don't care for either of these two but I'm curious about how you people see this shaking out. In looking at the numbers. John Edwards had 444,061 to Vitter's 256,105.

    The next two candidates were Republican.
    Scott Angelle with 214,907 and Jay Dardenne with 166,553.

    There were another 32K votes cast.

    What reasonable percentage do you think Vitter will get of those Republican votes? Getting 75% would be a lot but it still wouldn't give him the lead.

    Another huge factor is that voter turnout will likely be much less. Fewer candidates on ballot for all races, for one thing.
  10. I think Vitter gets most of Angelle's votes and Edwards gets most of Dardenne's. Hard to call on the turnout.
