If we are really going to announce a new coach on Saturday, one would assume that the new coach will not be someone currently in the NFL like Del Rio, Robiskie, or Nolan. Why make the annoucement right before they have to coach a game.

You would think if it is announced on Saturday that it would either be Petrino or a surprise pick like Spurrier or Miles. I think Miles would be a surprise pick because LSU has not contacted him after the Alamo Bowl according to his comments in news reports and it would be a disappointing hire for the first year because the thing that fans know most about him is he beat OU but got blasted in the Alamo.

I have to think that Bobby Williams was the token interview to clear the way for announcing the new coach. It would be a PR disaster to name the guy who failed in succeeding Saban at Michigan State. And, the Williams interview is the only one that they made a point of announcing to the media.

No offense, but you don't really believe all that, right?

It's nice, nice, loyalty-fueled coachspeak on Nick's part. He's talking up his coaches to help them land their next jobs.

I'm going out on the limb and saying Del Rio has agreed to the job, the press caught wind of the visit to jacksonville and, on cue, all parties involved deny anything happened so as to keep this out of the press until after Sunday.

There is nothing wrong with JDR announcing immediately after Sunday's game, even if they do make the playoffs. A fat guy named Charlie Weiss is helping to coach the defending world champs the rest of the way under those circumstances, and if that situation isn't distracting to the Pats, I doubt JDR's would be to the Jags, should they get into the playoffs.

I respect not making the annoucement less than 48 hours prior to the Jags game. Find out soon enough if I'm right or wrong, I guess.

Could it be Spurrier and not Del Rio in Jax?

I was thinking that perhaps they went to Jax to meet Spurrier under the cover of meeting Del Rio. Del Rio isn't supposed to be talking yet and I don't know where Spurrier lives nowadays but I'm sure that he has to be very careful about talking to LSU if he does it and no one would think that Skip was going to Jacksonville to meet Spurrier.

Have faith in Skip and his judgement. He knows the inside scoop more so than any of us posting on this board. I'm sure he knows how the players feel and I know he'll do what's right concerning LSU. He's the AD. He wants to get this done right!
