He doesn't get a pass obviously. The media is onto everything he says, especially the comics. Go to You Tube and search for "Obama gaffe". Insert your favorite politician. Biden has almost as many as Dan Quayle. Everybody makes mistakes but Obama is more careful than most of them, especially the language-challenged Dubya. Barrack say "uhhhhh....." a lot while trying to craft a statement off the cuff.
