What seperates LSU from all the other teams that have ever won the National Championship?? I look at all of our strengths and wonder how we could not make another national championship run. But then I think, what about all those other teams that were national champions 2-3 years ago, but are barely bowl bound this year... What will allow LSU to be a BCS bowl team this year, that has stopped other teams in the past?

recruiting. most of the teams that have won that are suffering now didn't have the recruiting, depth or recruiting base we have here. OSu, UM, Tenn. FSU also have had discpline problems and off the field issues. The only one that hasn't has been OU and they have been competing every year since they won. Saban has made sure we have had few off the field issues and the team remains discpline.

Well, Mr. Hollywood Movie Star with your cameo appearance in LSU's DVD

I'll tell you what the recipe is ... and all the ingredients

    1. Great coaching and gameplan preparation ... without it, even great teams have no chance

    2. Great recruiting and talent covering the entire spectrum of the game ... if the skill is not there and there are critical gaps at key positions, no NC.

    3. Great Defense wins Championships and can overcome mediocre offensive production ... this has been proved time and time again

    4. Total dedication to team ... look at Miami's loss to Ohio State ... they almost did it and should have won it back to back ... too many hot dogs :dis:

    5. Conditioning, strength and speed ... helps teams play tough late when many games are decided and creates mismatches that can be exploited for scores

    6. Luck ... The fickle finger of Fate has stomped many an azz on the gridiron.

    Those qualities being stated:

    1. LSU coach Saban is the best at motivating and achieving results with well-conceived game plans and masterful defensive tactics

    2. LSU's recruiting has been peerless in the new millenium and LSU has loaded up at all positions with America's best "top to bottom" at Offensive backfield, both Lines, secondary

    3. Saban's defenses and schemes are fast becoming a thing of legend ... a fearsome pro scheme that intimidates the best of QBs

    4. Hot dogs don't last long at LSU ... there is no "I" on Nick's teams ... players willingly change position and help junior players advance through tutoring skills (actually help coaches coach) ... Total team effort and dedication

    5. With the strongest (no argument) and fastest (possible argument from 1 or 2 teams in America) ... but combined best (strongest & fastest) = no argument from any program ... LSU is peerless among top teams ... this leads to fewer injuries and mismatches during the games resulting in scores.

    6. That leaves the last item ...

The Fickle Finger of Fate ... and therein, Hollywood, lies your answer.

Will the Football Gods smile upon LSU in 2004? I hear tell GOD is an LSU FB fan ... and after 2003 ... who the hell am I to argue

The difference is that we have finally got a coach who is the complete package. He can recruit, he can teach football, he can motivate, he can coach on the field, he knows the modern game, he deals well with the administration and the fans, and he knows how to handle the press.

His teams are faster (10+ players with 4.5 forty's and under), stronger (45 players bench 400+), smarter (graduation rates are up), more disciplined (thugs and players with "attitudes" go elsewhere) and work harder (Saban's pro-style philosophy that they must do their job properly is contagious). :lsug: :champs:
