...a LB from the River Parishes named Lawrence Williams? He signed with LSU a couple of years ago, but grades had them put him in JUCO. Did he end up in a football program somewhere? Also, from about four years ago, does anyone remember what happened to an undersized LB named Marvin Jones? He was supposed to go JUCO also, and then re-sign with LSU. Both of these kids were supposed to be very good prospects. Just curious if there are any LSU fanatics out there who know.
I feel sure you are right, and I think that guy is playing LB for the NY Jets right now. A hell of a player, if I have the name right. But this guy would have been in Saban's first class. He was about Sam Mills size, 5-9, 220. They said Saban did not want to give him a schollie because of his size, then saw him play, and changed his mind. I think I may have heard this guy joined the service, now that I think about it. Not sure though. I always feel it is a shame when a kid misses out. Even if he doesn't go to the Niffle, college football is an experience that he won't forget.
Dandy Don has him listed in the 2001 class as Marvin Jones, a 5-10, 225 lb. LB from Hammond. He may have ended up at Southern. I don't follow Southern that closely, so he may have played there four years. Thanks.
Marvin Jones stats for Southeastern Louisiana. I recall when Barbe beat Hammond High in a playoff game. Ask J. Vincent is Jones could hit.
