    and 400 beers later....

What the hell were we doing with JV in the backfield. this dude is exposed with this turf and was so slow no way we should be running him instead of alley. Also, running reverses with 2 yards to go 8 yards deep is ridiculous. All these things killed MR's early chances for the success he needed although he did stink up the joint. He was totally stagefright most of the game if not all.

Also, wow...this secondary for OSU is as good as advertised. As bad as we played offensively, this team played its ass off defensively and locked up some talented guys. Yes, the main equalizer was the weather but hey, they played to their strengths and we had to pull a Houdini to even tie this game up. We were lucky....period.

Let's give Mike Riley his kudos...this is the most prepared a team looked vs our defense since I can remember and this west coast 49'er style offense reminded me of Rice and Taylor and the 5 yard slants that killed the NFL for almost a decade before anyone could stop it. Derrek Anderson was off on a lot of passes but for the most part, this guy was stellar and looked very composed. He threw to a spot QUICKLY which made him look off at times but he knew when and where he wanted to go with the football and in the midst of serious blitzes. Many NFL QBs could not make the reads nor handle this pressure as well as he did. Props to this guy and their team. They did a magnificent job and by all accounts probably should have won. They were the better team.

Did anyone notice riley trying to run the clock out from the beginning of the second half on? They ran the ball a total of 5 times in the first half yet the second half they kill the short passing game which was IMPOSSIBLE to stop and start trying to pound the ball. So, we commit everyone up front and start shutting them down and suddenly our exposed defense looks awesome. Mike Riley gave us our only chance to win this game. Score again and we lose, period.

Great win which good teams build off and learn from only to get better. However, this team exposed our every weakness along with the sloppy track. This was one great learning experience you can only pray for as a NC defending HC. You can bet practices won't be too lackadaisical from here out and we get to work on the real issues. No more going through simple motions.

That being said...thank god for Kyle Williams in the first half or this game is truly out of reach. He made plays when no one was near DA or capable of putting any pressure at all. Conga Rats to KW.. serious game.

NO props to jimbo for not putting MR is best position to feel comfortable. He should have given MR the ability to run the draw when he dropped back....roll the guy out...let him use his feet. Its obvious he wants to do well and exert that nervous energy running the ball when no ones open. MR has no clue when his first read wasnt open, and I stress again, this was a top notch secondary. MR needs the option to RUN THE DAMN BALL to open up his passing lanes. By doing this he draws the corners up instead of laying back in a freaking zone. Even I can see this. Cmon Jimbo...and whats with the reverses in the slush? AND WHY CANT YOU USE A FULLBACK outside of a goal line situation? This is a perfect time for TE's and FB's. MISMATCHES SO USE THEM, PLEASE!

JR looks to be the future but i sure as F dont like him being hurt 2 times on critical drives. it was his ankle the last time but they showed the trainers rubbing his back later? Which is it? Seems to me he has the Aaron Brooks (Trout) look at times. beyond that he looks to have all the ability to be a star while MR was in shock. I felt so sorry for MR as if he was me out there with no true talent but i know he was just overwhelmed. He can only get better. I hope he doesnt look good for a rent a win then get to start vs a good team. We need someone to be able to perform when the lights are on bright.

Enough of my rambling. I need another beer.

I'll keep saying it until I see different. Alley Broussard should be getting the same ops JV is getting. He should have been the go to guy this game for sure.

thats half my argument. with this surface you need a N/S bruiser which Alley is. this entire game changes if he is in there with the proper calls. Im no expert but sometimes an outsider can see things beyond the unexpected playing field and conditions that jimbo had predetermined.

Terrible surface for JV or Skyler. Reverses were stupid. Pitch backs were stupid. No options for Randall is just plain dumb. Poor kid. We can only improve and Nick's team look so ill-prepared there's nothing really to discuss. On every facet we were being outplayed, outprepared and outcoached.....yet we won. Unreal.

Did i mention yet how well Mike Riley had his team prepared? very impressive.

P.S. Did anyone notice Mike Riley begging for a timeout in OT? He wanted to go for 2 knowing his kicker was so rattled yet no one looked his way. A good chance we lose if anyone notices him going berzerk on the sideline. God truly is a tiger fan.

It is amazing to see people blaming Jimbo for Randall's ineptitude. Look, MR is a nice guy, but he cannot cut it. We need to move on the Russell era. It is a shame that MR just doesn't have the ability ot handle the job, but it is no longer time to force a square peg into a round hole. LSU is going to move on while Randall is left behind.

not making one excuse. simply an obvious observation as i probably watch more football than possibly allowed. If it was Phat Phullmers team making the calls Id be all over his ass too. Same as the SECCG when Mauck ran the draw over and over which gave us the game.

please dont impose my thread with your insinuating nonsense. I spoke openly and objectively about the game situation and how I felt things could have been different but we had a preset gameplan which never changed even though the game situations did. Get over yourself and you preconceived qb drivel.

I'm not sure what happened to Alley. It appears as though at the end of last season he and JV were 1A and 1B on the depth chart. Alley was at least #2. I was very surprised when the depth chart came out to find Joe Addai ( who is one hell of a football player) at #2 and Alley #3. I'm sure it has to do with what the coaches see in practice or some issue that has developed that we are not privy to. I'm sure glad we won.

I also think that Broussard should have gotten a lot more carries, after it became clear that Justin Vincent was being handled pretty well by Oregon State. However, keep in mind that Oregon State was REALLY stacking the line... those safeties were up really close, and the only way to force them to not stack the line was to have an effective passing game. While we had a few nice passes here or there, we obviously did not have nearly the success we needed to open up the running game.
