Breaking news, 3:30 p.m.: President George W. Bush was confirmed today as LSU's commencement speaker, Chancellor Mark Emmert told Daily Report this afternoon. Bush will speak May 21 at the commencement to be held at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Emmert, who had known for about three weeks Bush was probably coming, said he'd been working on bringing the president "for some time." Last year's attempt to get Bush for commencement fell through and Vice President Dick Cheney's wife spoke instead. Tight security this year will mean controlled access and a limited number of tickets sold for the event, Emmert said, acknowledging the inconvenience for family members. "The good news is we're going to have the president for a speaker." He said the university's goal is to give its graduates a memorable commencement address. "The president is somebody they'll remember," Emmert said. "I'm pleased. It will be fun for all of us." http://www.daily-report.com/
I hope that this is not another stupid April Fools thing. I'm so sick and tired of them by now!!!! Please be legit!
Bush Sr. spoke at my wife's graduation in 2000 (or 2001). He was pretty good. Made fun of himself by doing the Dana Carvey impersonation of him.
It was reported on the Advocate's website. I'd have to say its true! If so, great campaign move for Bush!
I thought Emmert left LSU for Washington. Why would he be commenting on this. B.S., gotta be april fools.
Nope its legit. Emmert is still here isn't he? He doesn't leave right away I do not believe...Maybe I am wrong though...
This is Great.... I graduated in December and got the F***$*$ assistant Dean of the Business School as a speaker. The people graduating in May get President Bush. Wow!!
Emmert plans on leaving for Washington in July according to the UW press release announcing his hiring. :geaux: :lsug: :champs:
If I remember right, Dick Cheney was supposed to speak last year. But he never showed, and his wife ended up speaking.
