I thought it was surprising that it hadn't been posted and was worth posting as a separate thread, the fact that the 1986 final four mens' squad will be honored this weekend at the Kentucky game.

Without getting into the histrionics of Brady vs. D.Brown era debates, I hope the fans will fill the PMAC if nothing else to honor LSU's last final four team. I find it somewhat amazing that there are folks that will post stuff like LSU was "never a basketball school" and stuff, b/c I'm not sure where they were living in the 80s. The story of a 11 seed getting to the final four and upsetting a no. 1, 2 and 3 seed is kind of amazing.

Win or lose, having a piece of LSU basketball history celebrated IS important, and I hope a new generation of basketball fans will learn something about the past, b/c it's important for the future... :geauxtige LSU! :champs:

P.S. I like the fact that the administration, Brady and team are doing this. I do hope that there are also going to be some recruits at this game. Anyone with scoop care to comment on that?

I think it is great also. I have a great deal of sadness that Don Redden will not be there. He was a good friend and I am sure he will be there in spirit celebrating one of the great moments in LSU basketball history.

I agree that was an amazing run, but the fact that we were an 11 seed tells you that the program was never "all that".

SF- You are so out of it.

From 1977 to 1987 we were "All That"

Dale Brown better be glad we didn't have Tiger Forums back then. Can u imagine how lit up the board would be having CJ, Stanley Roberts and Shaq not making it to the final 4?

    It's GAME DAY!!!!

The Advocate answered my question this morning. As predicted, some very important underclassmen high school recruits will be enjoying the PMAC atmosphere (hopefully meeting some of 1986 squad) and watching a hopefully awesome game... As reported:

    Special guests, past and future
The 1986 team will sign autographs in the PMAC concourse before the game and will be introduced at halftime. Every surviving member of the lowest-seeded team (11th) to ever advance to the Final Four is expected to attend except Jose Vargas, who is still playing professionally in Brazil.

In addition, a handful of the state’s top underclass recruits are expected to attend the game on unofficial visits.

The list of players included Marcus Simmons from Peabody-Alexandria; Leonard Washington from Washington-Marion; Greg Monroe from Helen Cox of Harvey; and Chris Gradingo from St. Louis-Lake Charles. Jai Lucas of Houston-Bellaire is also expected to be on hand. Lucas is the son of former NBA star and coach John Lucas.

Some of these names are new to me, namely Greg Monroe, and Chris Gradingo. I'm glad to see Jai Lucas here too. Another Houston kid looking at us. I thought I read he was leaning toward Ok St. (where his brother played), but perhaps due to their troubles of late, and LSU's resurgence, is something to watch recruiting in Texas...

No doubt about Redden. He was a real sparkplug on that  Final Four team along with Ricky Blanton.

Don is buried next to Pistol Pete in Resthaven in BR, 30 yards from one of my uncles.

When I'm in BR and I go to my parents & uncles graves in Resthaven I go by those two basketball heroes resting places as well.

He left us at such a young age. RIP Don Redden.:bncry:

Don Redden was my 7th coach at St. George elementary in 1988. He was just a great, great human being. A total class act..
