Just sheer numbers will boost LSU into 1st. If LSU signs 26-28 players (which they will), and USC signs about 20, then LSU would get it from just the numbers.

Tyson Jackson has not decomitted, but he is apparently taking a visit to another school. Sometimes kids do this because it is a one-time chance to be entertained at someone else's expense, and there is nothing wrong with that since whatever school he is visiting knows he has committed to the Tigers.

However, I sincerely hope he is not considering pulling an Archie McDaniel stunt and backing out of his commitment at the last minute, since that would effectively cost LSU a scholarship that could have been offered to another deserving player. We have more good recruits who want to go to LSU than we do schollies, but we can't offer the scholly to someone else if we think its already spoken for.

Speaking of Archie McDaniel, his team got plastered 77-zip by OU and had a 4-win season. Hey Archie, you got what you deserved and missed out on the chance to be a part of a national championship team.

Why would USC stop signing at 20 players? They have attrition, too.

We can only sign 25 a year that get in, that's all they let you have. And we would have to lose a couple more transfers in order to take 25 and of course we cannot go over 85 either. Also, to say we will pass So. Cal depends on how you look at it. They look like they will end up with a few more 5 star players in addition to the ones they have already, so there avg. will be much better than ours and that is how most services rank them. they are on the verge of having monster year in recruiting.

I just don't see them signing 10-12 players between now and Feb 4th. That's why I think they will end up with 20-22 at the most.

I don't think we have to worry about that, we'll know soon enough as LSU will reach a point of telling him either come or don't come. They won't leave an unused Scholarship in the safe.

LSU will oversign, like they do every year. There will be a decommitment, usually. One or two recruits won't make grades or test scores. Plus the current team will lose a few players to grades and a few players at loaded positions will transfer.

Nick can always take a scholarship back from any slackers on the team and encourage them to find some greener pastures if he really needs the scholarships.

Any 4 or 5-star players still interested in LSU will get signed.

How does the TOPS program work?

How many can you get into it, and how does it affect your scholarships?

If you are a Louisiana resident and you qualify for TOPS by making the grades, you can get it. It does not affect athletic scholarships that LSU can offer.

BUT, it also does not pay for everything like an athletic scholarship. It's pretty much tuition only. Athletic scholarships also pay room and board with some other perks.
