Didn't George Steinbrenner once fire Billy Martin and hire him back the next day?

April 5, 1974: Steinbrenner is convicted on 14 criminal counts for illegal contributions to Richard Nixon's re-election campaing and was fined $15,000. Was suspended for 15 months by baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn.

1976: Steinbrenner returns, and the Yankees win their first pennant since 1964 under manager Billy Martin.

July 24, 1978: After a fight with Steinbrenner, Billy Martin resigns as manager for the first time, replaced by Bob Lemon.

July 29, 1978: It's announced that Martin will return as manager in 1980.

June 18, 1979: Steinbrenner rehires Billy Martin for his second stint as manager.

After 1979 season: Martin is fired for a second time after he gets into a fight with a marshmallow salesman in Minneapolis. Dick Howser is named manager.

1983: Billy Martin returns for his third stint as manager.

After 1983 season: Billy Martin is fired, replaced by Yogi Berra.

April 28, 1985: Martin returns for his fifth stint as manager after Steinbrenner fires Berra. He sends Clyde King to fire Berra, causing a rift with Berra that lasted almost two decades. Martin is fired again after the season.

June 23, 1987: After two seasons under Lou Piniella, Martin takes over for a fifth and final time. The Yankees finish in fourth place.

Dec. 25, 1989: Martin dies in an automobile accident at age 61.

At the time of his death, Martin was preparing to manage the Yankees a sixth time for the 1990 season, to the point of having assembled a coaching staff.

On September 22, 1985, while at a hotel bar in Baltimore, Maryland, Martin fought one of his pitchers, Ed Whitson, who was 4 inches (100 mm) taller and 40 pounds (18 kg) heavier. Martin suffered a broken arm, bruises, and cuts, while Whitson had a broken rib and a split lip.[7] He was fired after the 1985 season.

the problem with Mike Brown is he is all about defense in a scoring league now, he doesnt lean on his asst coaches enough or hire a true offensive guy to help him coach.
terrible motivator as well, however he is a smart guy.

Under Mike Brown, the Lakers were shitty at defense. They were actually ranked high during 'Antoni (see no D there) time. Mike Brown got carried by having Lebron, he's a piss poor coach. As far as d'Antoni's no defense? To be honest he goes over it a ton, and his teams are always in the middle of the pack where with the pace they play at they should probably be at the bottom. Both of them get misconceptions about them (d'Antoni isn't nearly as bad at defense as people say and Mike Brown is shitty at everything not just offense.)

The NBA loves recycling coaches, even bad ones.
