Should the Saints draft Tua if he slides?

  1. Yes. Tua is worth the late first rounder.

  2. No on Glass Joe... er... Tua.

No team that needs a "now" QB is going to draft Tua. He just will not be ready for next season, or maybe the one after that. If Tua is expected to make a full recovery but his injury causes him to slide to the end of the 1st round, should the Saints go after him? I think they should. Brees still has at least two good years left in him. If they draft Tua they can let him sit for those two years and learn the offense while getting fully back to health. Sean Payton can coach him up, teach him to play mobile without being a runner, and the Saints put a premium on offensive linemen who can keep a QB healthy.

I thought about that last night, but have no idea what other qb's are out there that the Saints may be watching that might be coming out next year. Heck, they might stick with Teddy.

Teddy's on a 1-year contract, so he has to be re-signed. I don't see him staying here unless Brees retires; he's proven he's no longer damaged goods and can be a starter again.

Somebody is going to pay him a lot more than he is getting from the Saints.

As of today, I agree, but the Saints' cap priorities will change drastically if Brees retires after this year. Which I'm starting to think is possible. Before yesterday I felt like the only thing he had noticeably lost in his arsenal was the deep ball; Ginn has to wait for the ball every time they try to go over the top. But I've often heard QB "authorities" say the throw that sets NFL QBs apart from the pretenders is the deep out, meaning the sideline throw 12-20 yards downfield. Yesterday at the start of the 4th quarter, Brees attempted that throw from a clean pocket on back-to-back plays. He one-hopped the 1st one to the receiver. The second one got there, but he had to put so much air under it, the DB made a play and almost picked it off. The end could be in sight if he can't make that throw anymore.

I've noticed the same thing. It seems that his accuracy is off as well.

this is what i've been seeing for weeks (been calling him dink & dunk Drew)... that first deep out was on 2nd and 18 and it bounced 3 yds in front of the receiver... the second one, as you said, had so much air under it, it hit the corner in the back because the corner had time to catch up to the receiver but didn't turn around... i'll go back a week to the dirty turd game... the replay from behind the play shows he had ginn open downfield and hesitated to throw the ball... wound up checking down to the back (or TE).. right there i said he has no confidence he can throw the deep pass anymore... he's still efficient and accurate (not as before) but i think going deep is no longer in his arsenal...

Drew will hire some strength guru and work in his arm strength all off season. That's thee kind of competitor he is.

I didn't want to say anything negative coming off a win, but 200 and change on 29 completions probably a career low for him with 20+ completions. We all know he can't throw deep anymore, but you're right. When the deep outs and the mid range passes are off, that's not good. I still don't believe he's 100% healed from the thumb injury, so maybe that's part of it, but the blue print for shutting down our offense is to stop the running game and clamp down on all underneath routes. Not all teams can do it, but Atlanta is young and athletic enough to do it and you saw it last week. Definitely a concern and something to keep an eye on going forward.

As for Tua, if he comes out, he won't be around long enough for the Saints to draft him. injured or not.

I don't see anyone drafting him that needs an immediate QB. It will be the teams that need a future starter. Steelers, Saints, Chargers, etc. are the teams that are going to be looking.
