UGA denied admission to defensive back Michael Grant, the No. 1 recruit in Georgia's 2004 class, who will enroll instead at Arkansas. The denial was the result of a background check done by a UGA admissions committee according to Grant's football coach at Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain. Grant was expelled from South Gwinnett High School in the 10th grade for an incident involving a female student. Grant attended alternative schools in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties before transferring to Stephenson his junior year. Grant was expected to compete for playing time at defensive back and possibly also play wide receiver for the Bulldogs. Grant will be immediately eligible at Arkansas because he met all other NCAA entrance requirements.
Well, what I don't get is why he was denied admission NOW....not when recruiting happened. It just doesn't make sense. From what I have read on several UGA boards....something has happened recently to cause this to happen. It hasn't come out yet....but soon will.
Good point. Maybe the recruiters are just trying to see as many great players as they can see, and not worrying about doing background checks until it is time for admissions. Hopefully if LSU is ever in that same position, we will do the same thing.
Right. Mark Richt helped this kid go to Arkansas by giving him several letters to Nutt and such. He choose Arkansas because he wanted to do track and Arkansas was recruiting him somewhat before hand.
