I am assuming that today's games does NOT have the opportunity to affect the rankings this year, but it's not hard to imagine how it could... That would have made for a potentially maddening week as everyone awaits the outcome, and likely would have increased the TV ratings for today's game.
An article from last year - Army-Navy game won't play into final BCS standings - USATODAY.com "What many don't realize, however, is a policy was established by the BCS commissioners last year eliminating that game from the BCS formula. Part of the reasoning, according to BCS executive director Bill Hancock, was the potential impact the game could have on the pairings for the BCS title game." At least they took it into consideration before allowing the date of the game to be moved. Technically DI-AA games could have an influence on strength of schedule computer rankings for common opponents, so it stands to reason that it's just a date cutoff for what games can be factored into the BCS.
Thats a pretty insightful question. Navy sucks this year, but in recent past they have had some pretty meaningful wins. Conversely, BCS, is pretty much saying, A-N ts totally irrelevant.
considering army is 3-8 and navy is 4-7, i dont think there is anything to worry about. to the teams they have played, i dont think either a win or loss will register. just playing them this year would have been a hit to sos. or equal.
Imo, they are. If there was a problem with it there could be a deadline established to be "relevant" with regard to BCS and any team not adhering would be declared ineligible. This may never impact A-N but Notre Dame. Which is another thing, I would require teams to be in a conference to be eligible.
The Colley Matrix was wrong last year and didn't apply the Appalachian State game to LSU's score (Brad Edwards was the one to catch the mistake), and thus pushed us down in their poll and has Boise State swap with LSU in the final BCS scores. Appalachian State is a Div II school. Every game counts.
