Well I spent the day (8-5) in a classroom today taking the CCW class. Well, the last hour and a half was the qualifying with our handguns.

Bummer though. I thought it was only necessary to sit through it once. I thought the renewal (every 5 years) was just a shooting qualification but I was told today that the renewal requires another day.

I told the instructor I didn't know if I would send the app off cause I don't know if I can (or want to) put myself through that again. Just a REALLY HARD thing for me to sit all day. Too ADD.

Anyway, was wondering if any of you had taken the class; had thought about it; what's holding you back?

    I won't ask why cause I have a feeling.

This was my qualifying shooting. It's not great but good enough. I had a few flyers when I shot a few rapid fire. I can shoot you a limit of doves with a shotgun but haven't shot 500 rounds through a pistol.

Last time I did the CCW thing, I went to the class, sat through the boring as hell class part... mostly the instructor just talking about the self defense laws, recip states and other areas of concern when traveling with weapons, etc. And then had about 10 min of shooting although apparently there is no pass/fail for the shooting part... basically if they could hit the target they passed. I know the instructor and he knows I can shoot, so he just had me dump some rounds and spent his time with the morons looking in to their barrels.
I haven't had a CCW in several years but I do plan on redoing the class and getting relicensed.

Before we moved to Texas in 2000 was the last time I shot them. When we moved to Mandeville, realizing I never used them, I decided to get rid of them. Still have my shotguns, but I use them.

Didn't the legislature approve a $500 lifetime carry permit this spring?

Sounds like you were way ahead of the status quo on this one.

Yes sir. Like you posted, it's $500.00 versus $125.00 every 5 years. That's for 21-64 years of age. Over 65 years and it's $62.50.

The class is from $75.00 -$125.00. This fee is not set and varies per instructor. An applicant also needs two sets of fingerprints and a 2x2 passport photo. Here's a link with all the details.

I spent years putting a few thousand rounds a week down range, I always enjoyed shooting and was pretty damn good. My next goal when I get my .308 is to start shooting long distances.
