Muschamp turned down DC position, Fisher still considering the offer since it would mean less authority. I guess the blame can be taken off Miles...this is the first confirmation I've seen so far about Will/Jimbo.

That's probably not good news that Will is not gonna stay on as DC. I hope Miles gives "Stump" Collins a look for DC. He would make an excellent DC!

Hopefully Jimbo packs his bags and gets out of town. Too bad about Muschamp. Bobby Williams better enjoy the ride while it lasts. Dooley - well, who cares. JMO on the four.

that puts to rest all of the rumors that Will was not offered the DC, but a position job. I like this quote from the article:

"I'm pretty excited about it," he said. "When you get to the NFL, it's all about ball. There's a trend in coaching now to prove yourself as a potential college head coach by first becoming a successful coordinator, then you go to the NFL. It opens up a lot of opportunities."

Sounds a lot like what Coach Miles said in response to his taking the Dallas Cowboy's job, ""I was the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State at the time. I am a college coach and it is what I have wanted to do, be a college head coach, since I turned me eye toward coaching. I felt like I had to get into football at its highest level, strategy, offense, defense and special teams at its highest level. What happened was I felt like it was a great experience..."

While we would be better off with him here, you cannot deny a man a chance to expand his horizons and increase his knowledge of the game. This is a good professional move for Will and I wish him all the best. Now, we just need to convince Les to find an aggressive proven coordinator for the job.

Purely speculation on my part, but I wonder if Muschamp is feeling a little bit bitter about not getting an interview for the head coaching position? That, or since he's got the oppurtunity to remain DC, yet chose not to, might indicated that he didn't think he could handle the pressure of running the defense w/o Saban--perhaps underlining that Saban had much more to do with the defensive play-calling/schemes than what even we knew?? Maybe Saban was Muschamp's security blanket??

Guess Miles wasn't all that interested in putting his neck out for Bill Clay's style of defense/play-calling.

If it just-so-happens that Clay ends up as our DC, we can at least all feel better knowing that he wasn't "choice 'A'".

I always had the feeling that Muschamp was more of a figurehead...a paper DC. That was Saban's defense.

As for Muschamp getting an interview/consideration for the HC job...if you think people were complaining about Les Miles, it was nothing compared to what it would have been if Skip had seriously considered Will. It would've literally been like handing the keys to the Lamborghini to a 15 year old.

I totally agree. As energetic and seemingly well-liked by his players, Muschamp just didn't appeal to many of us as a ledgit head coaching choice....but you still have to assume that Muschamp felt he was ready.

I completely forgot about Mike. I think he'd be a fantastic DC for LSU. He did a decent enough job at ULM, who had less defensive talent than West Monroe H.S. He's a real high-energy guy and it's pretty infectious.

Muschamp is only 33 ... no way he is ready to be a HC of a big time program. From what I heard, he didn't even show a real interest in the job ... he knew he wasn't quite ready.

But I would love for him to stay here as DC. What a great way for him to prove that he can run a defense without Saban's help. And that would help him land a HC job in a few years.
