ESPN - 2007 NFL Draft Projections LaRon Landry Defensive back Height: 6-foot-2 Weight: 187 pounds Class Year: Sr Experience: 3V High School: Hahnville Hometown: Boutte, LA 1. FS - L. Landry | 6-2, 187, Sr., 3V2. FS - C. Taylor | 6-3, 196, So., 1V LaRon Landry may be the best pure free safety in the nation right now. His coverage skills in center field are virtually second to none, and he hits surprisingly hard for his light size. He's also one of the few safety prospects in recent years who is a total ball hawk, flowing to the ball and the play better than the majority of defenders in the nation
I don't think LaRon has seen 187lb's in quite some time. He's at least 15lb's heavier than that right now. He may be the most physically gifted safety that LSU has ever seen.
I'll buy that. Landry would have been a first rounder this year, but I'm glad he stayed and will get a chance to be a concensus All-American. I think it is sad that Michael Clayton didn't stay another year. Now he'll never be on an LSU ALl-American list.
laron was projected in the 17-32 region, because of michael huff and donte whitner and even jimmy williams, i think he was scared of by the draft and i also hope that he wanted to stay in the purple and gold. im sure he believes that we could make an even bigger run this year and would get him a lot of national prominence. itd be great if we could get a top 5 or 10 pick for the program. a natl cship would be great as well of coruse
I think it had more to do with his injury. With his hurt ankle, he wouldn't have been able to do much for the combine which would have really hurt his draft stock - pushing him into the second round. Still, as a second round pick, it takes some love for your school to come back for your senior year.
That makes a lot of sense. Hope he recovers well from his ankle injury. ________ Friend Advice Advice
I would have also loved to see Michael Clayton line up at free safety ! If LaRon had not emerged his freshman year we may have seen it. LaRon's brother, Dawan, also a safety went to the Ravans. They sure have a "safe" family.
Dawan was a senior this year and was a part of this years NFL draft. Not sure if he got drafted or went the FA route.
the day following the draft, eddie munster was asked who was atop the draft board for 2007 and he said well, there's a few that grade out very high. the first name he mentioned was laron landry. obviously, brady quinn is more than likely the top pick, so let's hope laron goes about where brady's future brother-in-law was taken this year.
