He also said it "was optional" and that they did not give him "an ultimatum". What, is he a child? He needs an ultimatum to do the right thing? I just read the article and it mentioned that he came out 2nd with Fullerton a few years ago. He obviously accepted the trophy then, why not this time? I also clicked on the "Timeless defeat-How to lose" article and they mention Lafayette's Daniel Cormier pushing someone that beat him. Daniel has pretty much rebounded and will be in the Olympics this year. I hope he doesn't do like Augie and acts like a punk if he loses.
Whether it was optional or not not does not justify acting like a child. The sad thing is that I am sure there are some people out there that actually believe he didn't know to go out there. If he would have just told us the truth that he was huddled up in the corner in the fetal position crying his eyes out no one would have gave it a second thought. Just tell the truth.
Ever come in second in a big playoff? There is no shame in second place in a national competition like the CWS. However, the losing team is down and depressed right then and team photos of the 2nd place team always show a bunch of scowling, depressed, and disappointed people. The awards ceremony is all about the winning team and the losing team just feels left out and humiliated by being there. The winners don't care if the loser is there or not and the losers don't want to be there at all. Better that the second place trophy is presented to the team back at home at a sports banquet, surrounded by their fans, with everybody's intital disappointment behind them. Then they can appreciate and enjoy it, perhaps. At least the NCAA has eliminated the losers game in the Basketball Final Four. Four teams worked hard all season to make the final four, and then one had to leave with two losses. LSU went 31-3 in 1981 and then came home with a 31-5 record.
Texas won the national championship in 2002 didn't they? He should have been well aware of the fact that there is a trophy for second place and it is awarded at that time. There is no excuse for that behavior.
