So as I'm sure about 3 of you know, I moved to south TX 3 years ago. Worked hard last year figuring out the redfish and speckled trout. But I became enamored with Padre Island National Seashore. 65 miles off driveable beach! 4wd strongly recommended, so i bought a little jeep. First time down there since i got the jeep was Thursday. Get down there only to discover the beach is closed due to high water from incessant east winds. There was no beach, just gulf. I was devastated until i remembered mustang island has some roads that'll take you to the Laguna Madre side... on the west side protected by the wind. Still looking forward to my first real trip down PINS, but in the meantime, I ate good Friday. And as soon as I figure out posting pics here I'll share em.
Haha, both of course. Hails like a sonofabish in both. But to your point, I concur, particularly Amarillo sucks. Smells like piss
With that said, pompano in the surf is something I'm incredibly interested in on PINS... particularly in the fall-spring. I didn't realize but they have some seriously healthy specimens and if you've never eaten them you're missing out.
you right in the middle of the best HUGE trout fishing in the country. May not have the numbers LA has but as far as size of the trout nothing comes close to what texas has. You can legitimately catch a 10+ lb trout on any cast there. Have a buddy that got stationed over there in the air force and he catches several 10+ every month throwing large topwater baits. Musky sized topwaters throws em over depressions in the grass flats and does ridiculously well with em.
