Know any good places for camping in Louisiana and bordering states?

As in in a tent without electric hookups, generator power.

Primitive Campground in Kisatchie National Forest just outside of Pineville...

...nice creek with rapids, piney woods....

Also Tunica Hills just east of the Mississippi River & north of the La-Miss state line...great waterfalls and hills...problem is, Angola is close by...escapees, ya know...

Just looked at a couple websites on that place. Looks like a good place. Happen to know if they do canoe rentals?

    1. Red Dirt Wilderness area in the section of Kisatchie National Forest near Nachitoches.

    2. along the Wild Azalia Trail in the section of Kisatchie National Forest near Alexandria.

    3. DeSoto National Forest in south Mississippi featues the Tuxachanie Trail for backpacking and Big Black Creek, a fine place for canoe camping.

    4. Big Thicket Preserve in east Texas.

    5. Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas, several trails and primitive camping areas.

    6. Mt Nebo and Devils Den parks in Arkansas are very good, too.

    7. The Arkanas National Forests in the Ouachita Mountains and the Ozark Mountains offer many great trails, rivers and camping areas.

    8. The White and Buffalo National Rivers in Arkansas.

    9. Camping on the beach on Cat or Ship Islands is great if the weather is right and you have a proper boat or access to one. And nobody else is ever out there.

Most of the Louisiana and Mississippi state parks are too heavy on cabins, RV parks, and the Kumbaya crowd (big group campers) for my tastes. The Arkansas parks have nice rustic cabins, but also offer more widerness areas for tenters to find some peace and quiet away from the playing kids and the Winnebago generators.

You can camp just about anywhere in the National Forests, as long as you abide by their back-country rules and check in with a ranger. Bring your map and compass.
