Who is the best high school player you have ever seen live? Marcus Dupree, Philadelphia, MS. and then Oklahoma and New Orleans Breakers (USFL) He was unstopable in HS. A man among boys. Which player would you have most wanted to see in high school? Herschel Walker. Can you imagine him playing HS ball. I bet there are a lot of middle aged men talking about the night they played old Herschel and how they got to hit him.
Vincent Jackson at McAdory High. I saw him in a decathlon first, then the following year I saw him in a game and I have never seen anything like him since. I think after high school they started calling him Bo.
Todd Kinchen - Trafton Academy 87. And that good looking Tight End that helped block for him was fantastic
Vincent Alexander, RB, Covington High School, 1983. I think he played his college ball at Southern Miss. I saw another kid a few years back who played RB for John Curtis who struck me as possibly the fastest HS player I ever saw. His name escapes me at the moment, but I think he wound up at Baylor. He was a backfield mate of Jonathan Wells, who ended up at Ohio St. and the Houston Texans.
Have you seen him lately? He's coaching somewhere now...he has really blimped up. Dude is pushing 4 bills, easy.
I tackled a lot of air when we played trafton every year! Todd was the king of kickoff returns. No memories of any TEs though, good looking or otherwise. . .
Terry Bradshaw, Joe Ferguson, and Joe Delaney were probably the best. In another category "the most fun to watch", I'd put a RB from Shreveport Jesuit around '67-'68 or so. Name was Yerby. I think he made all-state at about 125 pounds. He could really make 'em miss.
This is the last I heard of him. By the way, anyone who hasn't read that book should. It's un-freakin'-believable. http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/pasquarelli_len1582445.html
Nilo Silvan - St. Paul's HS, Covington, LA - 1992. No other player has ever come close to this kid in my lifetime. Nilo went to Tennessee and onto Tampa Bay before washing out of the NFL and into the high school coaching ranks. I can't tell you how amazing he was every single week. St. Paul's went 10-0 his senior year (that should tell you enough about how good he was). Not to mention "Nilo Silvan" (pronounced Ny-Lo Syl-Van) is a great name. Nilo was impressive.
