So there's that. Ultimately, the tape doesn't lie. As a point of reference, WR James Wright got drafted in the 7th round.
Freak was the #1 rated high school prospect at one point and he goes undrafted? That's a shock to me. Loston was truly overrated coming out of HS, as are a lot of those Houston prospects, apparently, so I'm not surprised he wasn't drafted.
I remember when Loston and Victor Hampton were both considered top DBs coming out of high school. Both flirted with South Carolina, Clemson and LSU and both are now undrafted.
I remember making a comment that I wouldn't call him "Freak" unless he produced. He has the ability...he just didn't produce. Maybe he hung around with Sam Montgomery too much. It really is a long way from the Marquise Hill days. I think he'll be an undrafted FA that ends up making a team and eventually getting some playing time. he's got the tools (I think) just not the head for it. (OK, tools and head in the same sentence....@Cajun Sensation in 3.....2.....1.....)
I know that the NFL has gone pass-happy and rarely use fullbacks, but I thought JC Copeland would get a late-round shot. He had a good combine. SEC Linebackers fear him and teams still need short-yardage power plays and a blocker that can pick up the blitz. Loston and Johnson had question marks to go with some NFL physical skills. Johnson didn't seem to give it everything he had last season. Loston made a lot of mental errors for an upperclassman. Free agent is the route for such players. Some of them make it.
@red55 agreed on JC, and I'm very disappointed the Saints haven't looked at him. As someone pointed out earlier, its baffling that the Saints don't seem to know there's a top 5 college program that cranks out a half-dozen NFL ready players, less than 100 miles away.
