Just thought I would get a few thoughts as to the point spreads which I have seen. I know it's early and this stuff will probably change, but what do you guys think of a 7 point favorite in Tiger land?
I see it as just another underdog position for the Hawks. I do not remember the last big game (this season) we were favored in, maybe ASU :dis: .
The Hawkeyes have a bunch of mutts on their roster, not a ton of 5-stars or athletes which make you sit up and say "wow", and I think a lot of people (including some Hawkeyes) are still scratching their heads over just how this team, with all of the crap this season, is here at 9-2.
For their lack of 5-stars, the boys play football and have really become a team. ( I won't bore you with homer impressions of why they are fun to watch play)
I see the game as an Iowa win (close), or an LSU win in a run-away. I haven't decided yet.
If the game is close in the fourth, again, I'm not sure it will be, I have to think Iowa can pull it out as they have all season; they just find a way. I'm just not sure we can run with your athletes. We'll see I guess!
    What do you guys think?
P.S.- Notice the "you guys", that is as close as I can come to typing with a midwestern accent!

Based on seeing Iowa play a lot since Ferentz has been there and his conservative nature (even though you've passed more recently due to rb injuries) i really think he will resort to playing close to the vest and both coaches will prey on opponents turnovers.

I see a very low scoring, big 10 style game. 15-10 LSU. safety late.

Honestly I was very surpised that the spread was that high. I think LSU wins by 3.

    17-14

very seldom will a college football game total be below 40. if so, its usually the typical big 10 matchup. Iowa usually involved or penn state.

I say LSU is down nearly all of the game but pulls it out with a late touchdown (2 minute drive anyone?). By that late the running game will have completely worn out the Hawkeye D. Broussard, Addai, Vincent...:thumb:

Not so fast, my friend. :D

Our defense gets considerably stronger as the games wears on, so that's one thing to consider. Another is that we have 5 come-from-behind 4th quarter victories this year ourselves, so Iowa is not the only team that knows how to rally. Granted, we shouldn't have even been trailing to some of these teams, but we have a ton of heart and we know how to win close games.

    Tirk,

Your assumption is actually not correct.

In 2004 Conference play, the average game total for Big10 games was 46.4
In 2004 Conference play, the average game total for SEC games was 45.8

Has nothing to do with my statement.

Any betting total under 40 was most likely a big 10 game. Final scores have nothing to do with it, nor does it apply to the overall conference.

Purdue was not one of them even though they struggled offensively at times, they were and are perceived to be the same, high scoring team they started yet they slumped badly halfway.

perception is half the battle. Michigan's offense was perceived to be great yet may have been the most overated offense all year.

I'm thinking LSU's speed will overwhelm Iowa and Iowa will give up several big plays ... We shall see on Jan 1 in Orlando ... weather will be a definite factor in this game ...

Iowa better go and dig up one of those old Sioux Indian Chiefs and get a rain dance going in Orlando ... and keep it up for a week
