First of all, he IS the qb who led LSU to their only touchdown of the day. That said, Randall is the key to LSU's running game. Not because he is a great passer, but because he is a running threat. Watch the running plays in the game... When Russell was in the game, Auburn had their outside guys crashing down on the run, with no concern for the bootleg. When Randall was in the game, the outside contain guys stayed outside to cover the boot. LSU's running backs get their best yardage on cutback runs. If the contain guys are crashing on the backside, the cutback run is not going to be there.

Randall is also a better running threat. That QB draw was a good play today for LSU. I am disappointed to not see any kind of option run by LSU. It may not fit in with Saban and Fisher's style, but you have to adjust that style to the personel.

If Russell is going to be the guy, then Fisher needs to make some adjustments on the offensive side of the ball. They have to stop running so many cutback plays. The young recievers are not good enough blockers to protect the backside from crashing corners and safeties. This means put Broussard in the game more. He was the only one who had success while Russell was in the game because he is not a cutback guy, he is a run down your throat, then punch you in it, guy.

Also, off the subject but Saban, for god sake, find one of your linemen who kicked fieldgoals in H.S. (Alot of school use a big guy kicking straight toed) and let him kick the damn PAT.

I cannot disagree more, its time to turn the page. JR is our future. Lets get him playing. Randall is a great kid and a good Tiger, but as an LSU fan I want JR to play and get better. Lets face it guys, we are not going to win the National Title this year. We are to young and have a schedule from hell. Also assuming LSu wins out (thats a very huge assumption with trips to UF and UGA coming up) Auburn has to lose twice. Doubt that will happen.

So with that said, lets get him better, we all see his skills his just need polishing the more he plays the better he gets. I am not throwing in the towel but JR is better then MR. We have just as much chance of winning with JR. So lets get our future on the field.

You make some excellent points I simply disagree.

I dont understand this idea of getting ready for next year. Thats a loser's attitude. You take what you have and play and win today. Keep putting it off til next year and you'll find yourself a second tier team with sh*t for recruits. I take bigtime offense from that attitude because that is the attitude that my coach in HS had. He screwed over alot of good players and the next year, the year he was "getting ready for" was just another losing season.

I think Randall should start but having said that neither guy really deserves to start at
    this point.
I think Randall should go in for a series and if he's hot like he was on the first drive
    we should stick with him.
If he's not put in JR and see if he can spark the offense, he will get pt with this system
    anyway.

Neither QB has been consistant enough to be a starter but you can't keep changing
    starting QB's.
If you do that you risk putting too much pressure on the starter thinking its his big chance.
If you have one QB go in for the 1st series then if he fails put the other in they will
get use to a system but you have to go with the guy that is getting it done for that
game since they are both inconsistant.

This is why its called a QB controversy and a starter doesn't really mean a whole lot
    in this type of situation.

I'd give him rep points too for a quality post but I disagree with his basic premise. Yes, Randall is a lot better at running the quarterback draw but how often should the Tigers have to rely on it? We don't want to go to the same well too often. With running backs like Vincent and Broussard the RBs should be counted on to handle the load of the ground game (with help from an O line that is sure to be better latter in the year than they were today)

When we talk about the QB of the future we are not just talking about next year-we are also talking about next week and the next and the next. Randall might be a good person and well liked by his teamates but he apparently will never achieve a consistent level of quality play from one series to the next.

No JR colored glasses when I say that JR is the QB of the future of the rest of the season. With a Mississippi State team bad enough to lose to Maine (is Maine even a D1A team?) JR should start and play every series until the game is out of reach for the Cowbells. Georgia and Florida are both beatable but the defense won't do it on their own.

Randall has had at least 4 years to learn the system and get better (albeit with limited playing time) I have not seen much improvement in his game since the first time I saw him play. Being a fifth year senior, playing under the same offensive coordinator I would expect a much more polished QB skills than what he has displayed so far. He cant look off receivers, and he cant read a defense watching the film on monday AFTER the game.
If he has not improved in his 4 years then why should anyone expect a light to suddenly go off in his head over the rest of the season.
Jamarcus Russell IS our future and, unlike Randall, can get better with more playing time. I dont think Randall has the mental capacity to be an SEC caliber QB. He makes the same mistakes over and over. Dropping back, looking at one receiver and then taking off running is not going to get it done.
We will NOT win a NC this year. Leave Russell in...let him get valuable experience and I believe our future becomes much brighter.
    Just my 2 cents.

I was more nervous seeing #4 than #12 (although the '02 game doesn't help his case). #4 is your future...great arm, could use some better accuracy though. By the end of the season, the boy from LA will be a star.

I still feel that Randall should be the starter based on what I ahve seen but.....

If Randall is the starter I would rather not see him running option , wb draw, and lots of run plays in general. It is not wise to put your starting quarterback in a position to take a physical beating any more than need be.

at 6'2" 225, randall is well equipt to "take a physical beating".. he wouldnt be the first college qb to be used as a running threat. Its not the QB draws that i emphasize, its the playaction bootlegs with a run/pass option that makes randall dangerous. The best way to beat a defense is to keep them honest on the backside.
