    Confirms LSU interviewed R.C. Slocum.

This is great because it drops the price that we would have to pay Petrino if we hire him. He would be my second choice after Del Rio. This means we can get a more incentive-based contract with a lower base salary from Petrino and perhaps we will ask for a large buy out in the early years.I would be very happy to have Petrino. I think these negatives about him are B.S. When you are coaching at a CUSA school and Auburn, Notre Dame, Florida, and LSU ask to interview you. Say yes. If Petrino had a losing record, Louisville might be looking to fire him where is the loyalty there.
We understood when Saban interviewed with Jacksonville, Miami, et cetera because those were better jobs. Saban denied talking to Jacksonville at first. And, we no longer have to worry about Petrino removing his name while we guage Del Rio interest in an interview.

One benefit of LSU extending the search into next week is it gives them maximum negotiating leverage with Petrino.

As Pat Forde further confirms, Bobby seems to have screwed the pooch this time in Louisville, meaning he needs LSU more than LSU needs him.

This may come in handy if he scoffs at a, say, 7-figure buyout provision mentioned by LSU during final negotiations, should things get that far with him.

Also, LSU needs to work a little harder in the days to come if they want to keep up appearances that this search is not running out of steam.

Bobby Williams and RC Slocum? Are you kidding?

    Great minds...

You're correct about the salary, too. He can be offered a lower base than, say, Urban Meyer yet get a mix of easy, moderate and hard to reach incentives thrown in to make the deal around $2 mil a year in potential salary.

No worries, Petrineaux! If you win like you should if you go to Baton Rouge, you'll get your coin.

He will not pay for the rennovations and additions with retreds like Slocum and Williams. I can see the ticket sales plummet if one of those guys are hired.

GOd I hope we don't hire Petrino. He has two years HC experience in the CUSA and really doesn't seem to be the right type of class that LSU deserves. He's overrated IMHO.
