I'm gonna breakdown and give a little info on this first game, but first, I'd like to give some of you Tiger Fans a quick note. Being Labor Day weekend, flights to and from La/Houston. Just booked a flight on United $117/RT, don't think its worth the drive. This is out of MSY (New Orleans) to George Bush Intercontinental/Houston Airport - IAH.

    Best of luck Tiger Fans...

A start to looking into the game will follow soon.

Wanted to get this out for the fans not wanting to make the drive.

I thought it was called Reliant Stadium but I guess they must have changed it. Anyway, Bush International is a long way from the stadium and Houston is certainly a city that you need a car to get around. That flight is cheaper than the gas you would burn but then you have to rent a car. If I get to go I can usually make the drive in 4 to 5 hours depending on the traffic on I-!0. I once made it from the bridge in Baton Rouge to Clear Lake-NASA area in 3 hours but I wouldn't recommend anybody trying it.

Having watched the Wisky Spring game a few things I saw. They lost all of their starting front 7 from last year, along with the Free Safety. LSU should run the ball behind a great OL, some say one of the top three in the Nation. The addition of Coach Grimes can only help. The return of all the Te's also into play, these guys can block with the best of them and as Les called out on Dillon Gordon, a big guy with good hands. Wisky returns 12 of their top 20 tacklers from last year, but only 4 of their top 10 and 1 of the top 5. The leading returning tackler from last year was the SS Caputo. Still with only 3 starters return from last year on the defense, they return both CB's and Caputo the Strong Safety. But knowing Coach Andersen, they will be ready to play. More on him a little later.

On the other side of the ball, the QB returns Stave, a little more on him....

"Junior quarterback Joel Stave did not practice on Tuesday and has been shut down for the final week of spring drills due to his right (throwing) shoulder injury.

Stave was limited during the first six practices because of the injury, suffered during the Capital One Bowl. He was fully cleared after coming back from spring break and took part in six practices before being sidelined.

The Badgers have a practice on Thursday and the spring game on Saturday. Stave hopes to be ready for the start of summer workouts."

    His numbers: 208 of 336 for 2494 yds, 22 TD's and 13 Ints.

The big back from last year was Melvin Gordon(1650 yds rushing with 12 Td's.), he will be returning again this year. He didn't play much in the Spring game but is a very good back, hits the hole well, sets up his blocks and has very good size and speed. 6'1" 207#.
The 4 leading receivers from last year are gone so this should setup well for the Tigers.

The OL returns a lot like the Tigers, big and strong guys. They show 4 of the 5 returning.

The Head Coach Gary Andersen some might remember him at Utah, with this little tidbit:

"During his five seasons at Utah, Andersen was a part of two undefeated campaigns, both of which culminated in BCS bowl victories. He was the Utes' defensive coordinator in 2008 as they went 13-0 and defeated Alabama, 31-17, in the Sugar Bowl to end the season ranked No. 2 in the country. His defense ranked 11th nationally in rush defense, No. 12 in total defense and No. 20 in pass efficiency defense, and Andersen was named a finalist for the Broyles Award, given to the nation's top assistant coach."

The player, TJ Watt (TE), he is the brother of former Badgers defensive lineman J.J. Watt, who was named 2012 NFL Defensive Player of the Year with the Houston Texans, and current Badgers fullback Derek Watt.

Some hotels/motels will shuttle you around (To and from the Airport) (To and from a big game at NRG). At times, I'd rather have someone drive me around. ;)

I always worry about getting stuck on that basin bridge heading back to BTR.

I will be watching on TV, as I'm hosting my annual "Wear Your College Colors" party. We have a neighbor who is a big Texas Tech fan. He'll bring his industrial Red Raider smoker and park it in our driveway in the back with all kinds of beer and a TV hooked up. I'll cook the appetizers and sides, and we'll host 60-70 people, once one counts all of the kiddos present.

We'll have alums of LSU, Texas, Texas A & M, Baylor, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, TCU, Arkansas,...and Gonzaga, just off the top of my head.

I made that trip many times from 2003-2005 (As my now X was from Houston) but from Mandeville to League City. (Just south of Clear Lake-NASA) How fast were you driving to do that in three hours?

I'm expecting this game to look a lot like the Iowa Bowl game. I don't think we'll be very afraid of their offense, or their ability to put up points against us going in, which will lead Miles/Cam to a real conservative offensive approach.

I look for us to run the ball a lot and play it safe. We'll see our typical play-action plays, but if we jump out to a quick lead, expect us to pound away and punt a lot.

I think this will be our best game plan. I don't see Wiskey having a stout offense.

We'll see both our young QB's play. Something like 60-40 on the reps.

Magee and LF will split most of the carries and we'll play lots of freshmen.

I expect a slow, hard fought victory by LSU. We'll win by 3-7 points, I think. But much like Iowa, we'll be in control most of the way.

Mostly over 100 until I got to Baytown and turned on Hwy 146. Was driving a 1995 Mercedes SL320 Roadster.
