Stupid phukers. One of the biggest things that can help is doing away with Gun Free Zones. Look at Chicago, the biggest Gun Free Zone in America and the murder capitol of the country... it's apparent that shit don't work.

Wouldn't it be a better idea, if we really want to keep citizens safe that is, to make all those convicted of a violent crime, gun related crime, sexual predator crime wear a bracelet. At least then, those of us still allowed to carry a gun would know where to aim.
More than laws against carrying guns or laws making it legal we need to engender a sense of responsibility. For every person saved by carryng a gun and stopping a criminal assulting them, there is one or more who is shot with his own gun or by someone else in an accident. It seems to me that mandatory gun safety course for EVERY purchase should be the least requirement to take possession. A 2-4 hr course could be provided at gun shows and shouldn't hinder the trade, in fac it becomes another source of income. I would think that a gun/hunter safety course should be required for hunting licence (even renewal) as well. Maybe there would be fewer " hunters orange deer" shot. With every right comes the responsibility to make use if it in a positive way. BTW I am not so much for gun checks though or record keeping of gun owners. A enviornment where respect for the power of the gun is held by all. Those having one need to realize its power and the import of taking a life. It isn't an easy thing to have on your conscience even when justified. They are not toys. It is my belief that the 2nd amendment was written for 2 reasons. The first is archaic, to keep the citizens well enough armed to limit governments' power. The second was as a frontier country, individuals needed the power to defend themselves from the wild country and lawlessness. This has morphed until today it is a part of our culture and society and though the severity of the need is somewhat reduced hunting and self defense are still viable reasons to bear arms.
I tend to agree. Original laws are archaic but rights to bear arms are still valid. I think we do need to keep progressing, however. I see no problem with gun registration andy more than with car registration. Law abiding citizens have no reason to fear it but it can really help law enforcement track weapons used in a crime to its source. I see no problem with better background checks, especially at gun shows. Laws that prevent individuals from buying hundreds of guns every week would greatly help prevent illegal gun-trafficing and have zero effect on law-abiding citizens. Gun ownership is a very serious responsibility and we can't keep treating it like owning woodworking tools.

Absolutely not, that would be a violation of their civil rights and just unfair to those poor criminals.
I can get behind this. I don't want to see gun rights curtailed, but I still recognize that rights come with responsibilities.
@Winston1 If you're born after 1960'something a hunter safety course IS required before you can buy even a basic hunting license. Also, in order to get your CCW license, you have sit through a several hour course that goes into self defense situations, gun safety, and a shooting portion. And as an added bonus... those who have their CCW has passed a criminal background check done by the state police.
