Long time LSU radio color commentator along side John Ferguson: http://theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/8950811-123/former-lsu-broadcaster-walter-hill
A lot of us did kcal. Nothing like a Saturday night in the fall listening to John & Walter call the action from Tiger Stadium.
Something doesn't add up. The death of a Tiger broadcasting legend gets 4 posts and a cartoon character 4 pages.
The younger fans don't realize what life was like before the NCAA lost the court battle over control of cfb and the television rights. Most weekends there were only 3 or 4 games broadcast so we had to listen to the games on the radio & use our imagination if we couldn't go to the games. I think I might have run the battery down in my mother's car a few times listening to the pre-game, game and post game shows.
And football fans all over the country listened to LSU games on the radio because we played night games when most of the other teams were done for the day. And the LSU network had two 50,000 watt clear channels, WWL and KWKH, that could be heard almost anywhere in the country at night.
You could get WWL clear out to the west coast. We listened to LSU football in 1964 & 5 on WWL when we lived outside of San Francisco.
